I have recently bought a new Drift Ghost S (I decided on the Drift over the GoPro owing to the infamous battery life and 'brick' look when mounting to a lid) and so far, so good; I have got some really good lid mounted footage after a recent blast across the Black Mountain Road in Wales a few days ago. But I am struggling with a few things... Aside from the obvious mounting of the spare flat mount on the swing arm has anyone mounted one anywhere else? any tips? photos of mount or camera in position? I'm really keen to get some interesting angles as whilst the lid mount is really clear, it doesn't add much interest! Also, the stock microphone is complete rubbish when facing forward with wind noise making everything else inaudible, to be fair I knew this prior to buying so not upset by it but has anyone had any luck with the external microphone? I have OCD with cables you see so it has to be neat and tidy! Thanks in advance :- )
I also use a drift and have got some good angles using the suction mount. I've had it mounted on the side of the fairing pointing at the front wheel, pointing at my left foot and also mounted on the seat cowl pointing backwards. Its very strong and won't fall off.
Mike, have you tried turning the mic sensitivity down or even off, next time im out going try some tape over what ithink is the mic. The Barron uses drift, his mic setup sounds ok in his lid. Ive got a suction mount, had it on right hand side fairing ( fair bit of vibration )and on seat cowl facing backwards, only experimenting at the moment
I use the Drift external mic i have tucked all the lead under the liner only bit that you can see is the small bit from the lid to back of camera. As for wind noise when you only have the internal mic, just turn down the mic on the drift and stick a bit of foam over the internal mic cover. As for placement on the bike just try a few yourself, I have put the drift in a few places but just usually either have it on me helmet or on my sat-nav yoke mount looking through the screen.
The mic is crap turned it down, taped over it bit of foam, sock etc. Will be trying the external mic soon.
I use the drift and can't recommend the optional external mike enough. Its much better than the cam mic, and Ive found that placing inside the chin bar near the cheek pad is perfect. As others have said turn it down though as its quite sensitive. Have yet to try other mounting point for the cam, as I can't decide where to stick the one and only spare holder lol vids on youtube are under zippysworld if you want to hear the mic for yourself
I mount my Contour Roam2 to the side crash bung using a special wrap mount for Mountainbike forks. You can see the blue camera on some of my pics. Good for road surface 'speed' and scenery too ;-)
