What do people do regards lubing the chain when touring. I don't want to fit a scottoiler and a paddock stand will be difficult to take

I used a 100ml can of the new WD40 chain wax on my last tour..........brilliant ! Taught my 12 year old how to hold the bike on the balance point between the side stand and the front wheel, so I could spin the rear and lube it!
I wouldn't av me 15 year old holding my Blade on it's balance point or even the Wife for that matter! Fek that!
All someone has to do is put bike on side stand, then get someone to stand on the right hand side of the bike, bars in the full left position, put one hand on the right bar to stop it starting to turn back to the right, apply front brake at the same time, and with their left hand push on the right side of the tank, the rear wheel comes off the ground, then it takes you less then a minute to lube chain whilst spinning the wheel. Apologies in advance if you are a Billy no mates and are going touring on your own, because unless you look like an octopus, its not possible to perform what I have described on your own.
Small tin of lube like Si says. I've had three Scottoilers on three different bikes (never fitted any of them, they all came with each bike) and found all three to be crap, tho others seem to get on ok with them. Never got any of them working proper, plus they were a pain to fill up. Plus, you had to p*** about with your carbs which powered the oiler. Maybe they now make an electronic one? Best oiler I had was a Motrax, had it on three other bikes, worked really well, plus was easy to fill up. However, you really need the optional 'regulator' to go with it, works without it but the flow is dictated by the oil viscosity if I recall correct and was hard to regulate, hence the regulator . You can also mount/hide the Motrax oiler reservoir somewhere out of the way in an horizontal position (with the filler tube vertical tho'). Motrax Lubetronic Electronic Chain Oiler - Demon Tweeks
Yeah. Scotoilers rock! Admittedly they can be a pain to fill. But easier than lubing your chain anyway. They do an electrically pumped one now. About £200 IIRC. You can set the flow rate directly rather than guessing and counting drips... I keep meaning to get a new one, but I'd need to find a decent place to put the reservoir.. (My 600F had it under the seat. But that tended to leak a bit. My 600RR had it behind the plastics on the LHS... That took a removal of the plastics (And R&G) to get at it. That was a pain. Whilst I do go touring with mates, I like to be independent when oiling my chain, a few years ago, I think it was M&P, but a Lift Stick was being sold for about £30, but I made my own version from a bit of chrome tube and a couple of walking stick rubbers. Simply put the bike on the side stand, stick your bum under the side of right hand side rear fairing, lift up an inch and place the stick under the swinging arm, leaving the rear wheel off the ground. Cable tie the front brake for added security if you want, then use the spray of your choice to oil the chain. Removal is the reverse procedure. You can make smaller versions with suitable tube than sleeves together, so its 1/2 as long until you join both together, but I never bothered. With luck a pic of mine:
I bought a Louis Motorcycle Lifter from Get Geared last year when I went touring it was about £30, great bit of kit to have when touring, would be good if you could incorporate some way of attaching a socket to it to double up as a rudimentary spanner/ratchet as it long enough to get some leverage on it rather the the rather joke like Honda offering
Being as I always go Touring in a group then it's just easier if a mate pushes the bike along whilst I spray Sdoc100 about!
Has anyone tried lithium grease on their chain? When my bike went in for the brakes during the week, it came back with the chain all white... Looks like lithium grease.. A quick google reveals quite a few people using it. And a reference to WD40 making a white lithium grease for chain lube in oz... H
