Hi Just found you (must admit I have not previously looked ) I sold my CBR600RR in Jan 2009 and took delivery of a new Fireblade (black of course) on the first of Feb 2009 and have had 5 very happy years and 30,000 smiley miles fitted some of the usual tasteful mods Hell lines Gilles rear sets Pazzo levers carbon exhaust cover D/bubble etc etc I love the bike but unfortunately my 60 year old body no loner does and its sat for the last 8 months so sad to say its going into the dealers (less the goodies) and I going to have to look at something more suited to by old knackered body possibly a VFR definitely something less head down arse up any polite suggestions accepted All the best Ian
Ian, Before you sell try a set of bar risers on the Blade - for quite a small amount of money it may transform the bike - there is a company selling complete kits, let me try and find the link
Home - Cool n Comfy: Superbike performance - Touring comfort. For your Blade: Fix the Painful Riding Position: : CBR 1000 RR : Honda : Shop Another £35 for the bars - 754-01-Bk They have a kit listed for the Blade, then you add a pair of Renthal bars - I'm almost tempted to try myself and see what they are like!
Welcome toth, was going to suggest the bar risers and possibly lower pegs as well. For hips I'd go titanium!
Maybe a set of peg lowerers might help, see here I know someone who fitted them to his blade, not had that problem myself, but did have Helibars on my 04 bike which made a difference, but did not find the need on my 12 bike, tho I may fit them to my 14 bike or even Gilles Variobars. I had a few VFR's over the years, but reckon I would miss the performance and lightness if I had to go back to one now.
hey.. well...60 is f**k all mate....my old fella (god rest his beautiful soul) was much older and still rode..and furthermore i saw a guy on the news recently who was riding a push iron at 80+...don`t give up on the Blade buddy...lower pegs, higher bars...gel seat..anything is possible...
Hi Ian. Our very own Kpone has just had similar issues as you and has recently part exchanged the blade and put some money towards this . He seems to be enjoying it and has even said both he and Jeanett will be taking a spin over when we head down to Devon later in the year .......or you could try the bar risers
Thanks for this link, I busted my hip when i was 16 and my left leg is 2" shorter with no outward mobility (no left knee downs lol) Im finding as i get older Im having trouble in the cold mornings getting my left leg onto the pegs, so lowerers may be good...now I need to convince them to sell me ONLY ONE! lol
Welcome Ian! I know what you're saying (shamefully, at 15 years your junior) and have just gone through the not-so-unusual position adjustment process i.e. Woodcraft 2" riser clip-ons and Hel break lines as required, Zero Gravity screen (for extra clearance), lowered front pegs, and still shaving bits off my front seat to bring my arse down relative to the grips. All has helped quite a bit with overcoming this pain of trying to jump a few million years' evolution and turn from an amoeba to a shark in less than a photon takes to travel from the sun to earth. Well, that's what trading my TDM-850 for a 06 Blade feels like (no offence TDM fellas, not meaning to say you are all amoebas ) I love this blade even as a commuter and am getting the hang of it (well, my neck and shoulders tell me otherwise, but I don't care, pain is just a neuro chemical process as we know). Chances are though that I won't fold myself into a blade forever, and there may also come a time where I will look forward to just riding my bike rather than constantly 'improve' it- those times are not in sight for me (yet), but I think I can understand you. My 5 cents' worth- buy what suits you best, don't give a f**k about image or what others say- pick and ride whatever you like, as long as you enjoy it and feel safe and comfy with it! Guys like you will alwasy get my respect for hanging on to the ride for as long as you can!
Thanks everyone I have an old Carbie Blackbird as well as the Blade the Blackbird has a straight raised bar conversion with Renthal bars which is much more comfortable for the longer runs runs I'm just not sure how I would feel running the Blade with that type of conversion but I will give it some thought but the New VFR does look tempting Ian
Ian, I had a conversion on my 06 Blade when I bought her, and it felt really good. It felt comfortable, no aches etc. although the MUCH more upright position meant a lot more wind resistance at higher speeds. This of course could be addressed to an extent with a larger windscreen, I now have a Zero Gravity Corsa (I think this is the biggest they do) which does a much better job for me (at just over 6ft) than the stock screen, looks ok but that's debatable On a downside the fairing had been butchered to accommodate the kit which as far as I am concerned was the only downside, and as I got a full Repsol kit with the bike I reverted the handle bars back to standard.
