Just finished a night shift. Riding home knackered . Not pushing it. Speed limit goes from 60 to a 40. Was doing about 65 in the 60 rolled off the throttle but a police forward facing van is by the side of the road. I hadn't braked for the speed change just came off the throttle so I don't think I would have been doing 40. It's the older style Thames Valley van so I'm pretty sure either just has the rear camera and no others. Anyone been done by one of these? I assume the person in the van has to clock your plate.?? 14 days of worry starts here
Lots of Scamera vans now have a forward facing camera to get the plate of bikes. Like you say a couple of weeks of waiting for a NIP to drop through the box I'm afraid to say. Don't celebrate too hard at 14 days as that is when they have to send it to you by, not when you have to receive it by.
Fairly sure they only zap you out the back door/hatch,if its a bike and its going toward the van the forward facing camera gets the reg as it passes the front of the van.
Although forward facing cameras record the plate, there is nothing to stop the operator turning around and clocking your registration number. Providing there is continuity of evidence, then you can still get done. Thames Valley tend to work on 12MPH over the limit before they start booking. Like said esewhere, all you can do is wait 3 or 4 weeks and see if anything drops through the post.
I sat inside one of these vans on an awareness day and its the camera on the side which registers the bike number plate, so it it has no forward camera or sided mounted yer free to go. Good luck ,maybe they didn't get you as its manual pointing of the camera, or they might have been biting into their sandwich
It's a pretty old van they use. Don't think it has any other cameras other than the one pointed out the back. It's been around for years!

Sorry to hijack your thread phantom, I got caught at 92 in a 60 at the beginning of march, received my NIP within 14 days, heard nothing since, is there a time limit before it becomes null and void ?
not sure about null and void but I think they have 6 months in which to set a court date, get over to PePiPoo: Speeding - UK Motoring Law for more information
Information has to be laid before the Magistrates within 6 months of the date of the alleged offence. What this means in simple terms is that in affect the Courts have to be told that they intend to bring a prosecution against an individual. So for example if someone gets reported today, then the information has to be laid by the 12th of December. If the information is not laid within the specified time, then it becomes null and void and time barred. However!!!! This does not mean that any prosecution will occurr within the 6 months. Although the legislation states that prosecutions should happen within a reasonable period of time, it could be several months after the 6 months has expired before the matter actually appeared before the court for trial. I have known some cases take 12 months from date of offence to actually get to court. Hope this explains things for you.
I got a verbal nip in April a few years back, heard nothing until court date letter in September. Must admit I thought I'd got away with it.
I was caught doing 49 in a 40 in Plymouth by a forward facing camera van, as i went passed i looked back only to see a smaller camera mounted on the windscreen to take my number plate.... Then 6 days later i had a speed awareness letter waiting for me.........£85 and no points .....Phew!!!!
