Interesting when I phoned Crewe Honda about 4 weeks ago they wanted a days labour and £290 to bleed the brakes!!!

I spoke to the old dude though...... He must be slower.......

    What was the £290 for?

Assuming they charge around £45/Hr then a days labour is going to be about £315, so with the other £290 on top that's £605!

Surely you have that wrong Rukka?

Sorry mate, I wasn't clear with that post..

It was a days labour "totalling" £290 for the brake bleed

I was just surprised the OP was quoted £98 when a few weeks later I was quoted £209

Perhaps they lost the special tool ........ Lol

No - "Alan from Hangover" was waxing lyrical about the usefulness of this "special tool" when I went to get my spare key from him last weekend. He was also trying his best to find other things wrong with the bike, although to be fair he did point out a couple of minor things I hadn't noticed...

So not sure why you were quoted so much. Having said that, when I asked the other week I got the impression that they hadn't done an ABS bleed for a while on a blade, as the "special tool" method hit him like an epiphany as he was wracking his brains (and the computer) for a price. I'd definitely query the price they quoted you tho...

Could you guys go into a little more detail on exactly what your "special" tool is and how you use it? I bled the brakes myself (with muffler, header, and radiator removal), and NEVER WANT TO DO IT AGAIN! I get tiping the rad forward - just not sure on the tool.

    Thanks

The 'Special Tool' is no more than a suitable sized 1/4 socket (bout 10mm) on an extension bar so they can access the Bleed Nipple on front modulator unit without removing the Zorst headers

So you can't attach a tube to the nipple? Doesn't the brake fluid get all over everything? Not to mention that you can't use a vacuum bleeder.

I seem to remember looking at that possibility when I had everything off, and I thought that the heat shield made access to the Bleed Nipple very difficult.

You can comfortably see & get a tool on the bleed nipple without removing the headers or heatshield. I use a long 1/2 inch scocket extension with a crows foot spanner on the end (accessed from the left hand side); this leaves ample clearance to attached a hose to the nipple using long reach pliers. You dont need the hose if you time it right & dont mind cleaning up the spilt fluid.

I'm guessing you don't need to move/remove the radiator. Do you need to remove the fairings?

Well, that's a lot better than the way I did it - fairings, radiator, header, silencer! What a pain in the a**. I needed to remove everything because I wanted to add extra heatshielding to the modulator (since some on the 'net postulated that heat is the problem with the brakes). Unfortunately, it didn't make the slightest bit of difference. After a year and a half of hassle with these useless brakes, I'm getting pretty close to throwing in the towel
