Can anyone help I keep looking at SP1's I'd love to own one but am not sure what to look for when buying one. Has anyone got any top tips, things to avoid etc, or owners who can tell me what they're like to live with. Also how will it ride compared to my 2012 blade? If it rides as well as it sounds it will be awesome. I know the wife will kill me but I think it would make a great addition to the collection! Thanks Ozz
oooh you just missed out on one I sold........ cracking bike...... Colin B is the man to ask...... hes done just about everything to his......
I had one a few years back and it looked and sounded awesome. I never quite gelled with it though, it may have been me or something wrong with the bike. I found that it used to run wide when pushing around bends. Although it had no record of any accident damage I suspect it may have got a bit twisted at some stage in it's history. I know many people who did not have the same problem and reckon the SP1 handles superbly. My advice would be have very thorough check around it and take it for a long test ride (had I done that I might have discovered the dodgy cornering on the one I bought). As Givover said, many people rate the SP2 as being a better bike, quite a few reviews support that. Great looking bike, good luck with your search. Personally think you would be much faster on the Blade, but it's not all about speed, sometimes it's about style
The SP2 is a slightly better machine yes, but the SP1 is the 1 to have if you want to make money on it. To put it into perspective I bought mine for under £3k, and I'd now get £5k for it easy. As for ride wise, it really is pretty special. To compare it to the blade they are like chalk and cheese. With the blade you go round corners like telepathy, and with the SP1 you man handle the bike round. Now don't take that as the SP1 being poor handling as it really ain't the case it just needs a bit more effort which is where you get the satisfaction and fun from. Every time I get of the SP1 I honestly have a massive smile on my face. Add the sound of the mix and torque to the mix, and it makes for something special. Things that you really want it to have are: Altered gearing, as standard is too high A power commander to smooth out the throttle response, (though it still won't be perfect). These bikes are pretty unbustable and apart from checking the bike over like any other. Ie. for crash damage, bearings and making sure all the electrics work, there are not really any major issues with these bikes. Happy hunting
+1 ColinBR I smile just looking at mine! The fuelling is lumpy but then again it's a twin. The ride is very firm and you have to muscle the bike around. Do this and the bike rewards by the bucket load ! I really like my blade but love the SP1.
Cheers Guys. I went to look at the bike I had in mind Saturday Morning and it is listed as having low speed crash damage, basically some small fairing damage on the LHS, this damage was not too bad. But the bike looked very unloved in general. Oh and no service history. I'm sure it will make a great project for someone but not for me at the moment, I'll have to keep looking & maybe saving a bit more if I want an Sp2. They are really getting bloody expensive now. Anyway thanks for all the advice watch this space.. Ozz
