Motorways are boring anyway, I only use them in my car with it cruise control set and never speed, don't see the need in a car I long for mpg on motorways (70mpg at 70mph so don't really care about those types of speed camera myself

I still don't get it- restriction free motorways in Bavaria, and not as much as a single mention ever of the Bavarian's having more than average accident statistics on their motorways....must be all the slow-coach cars they drive, those BMWs, Porsches, Audi's etc. Or is is not the type of vehicle or even speed that are to blame for a fair proportion of road accidents? Drivers perhaps? Should the government not rather invest that money in driver realignment courses (aka long stick to beat every moron they catch behaving utterly stupid spoiling it for everyone else)... just thinking out of the box
German driving standards are much higher, or at least they were in the 80s and early 90s when I was over they. The Osties caused a fair few prangs though when the wall came down. Trabbies and Wartburgs on the 'bahn were somewhat outclassed, to the extent they were bloody dangerous. Even at that time though the Germans has cameras catching people for tail-gating and not just speed.
We have the least road fatalities per 100,000 population than any other county at 2.6, Germany has over 4.4, so no they are not better than us

i see one of these camera's on the M25 heading from west to east just before the A10 exist...its in the corner and every time i pass its flashing cars in the opposite directions... its odd as there are also the normal big camera's above each lane there...
everyone in germany knows that when it's unlimited they can floor it, and when there is a restriction they abide by it, slamming the brakes to make it. plenty of coppers waiting 1km further to nick someone... Last time I was there I was in a golf R32 doing 220km/hr, looked in the mirror to see a beemer, a merc and an audi closing in on me, so I pulled over to the middle lane to let them fly by...... gotta love the autobahn!
+1 I think one of the tricks is to honour that not everyone wants to travel at higher speeds and give slower drivers enough time to react and get out of the way- it's a lot of give and take, faster travellers have to appreciate that not everyone has the wish or even the vehicle to drive at a higher speed and treat them with the same respect they expect from slower travelling people in that they expect them not to hug the 'fast lane' (whereby fast is relative and means something different to every individual as we know). But it's the same with e.g. lane splitting; I keep seeing bikers going at considerable speed between slower moving rows of cars, and if a car pulls out in front of them they get angry and abusive; not taking into account that the driver indeed may have looked in the mirror and probably saw the bike in the back in the distance, but underestimated the speed the bike was travelling at thus making an error of judgement thinking there was enough distance between them. Admitted, there is an equal number of snooze-heads who can't be bothered to check - or, god beware, even indicate!- before they change lanes. Oh, and, indicating- what's the point in indicating if people pull out at the same time as they indicate rather than indicate their intention a few seconds before changing lanes, thus not giving anyone approaching from behind a chance to adjust to the changing situation in front of them? Grumble!
here in Belgium if your traveling between lanes in traffic your allowed to only ride 20km/h faster than the traffic. how they measure that is beyond me, but most bikers stick to it, as it's for our own safety.....
M25! we must have filtered through 10 miles of static traffic when we went to Kent to catch the train last mth! We where saying we would never take a job that involves commuting through that debacle, imagine the hrs wasted every year? Be surprised if you can do 50 mph, never mind 70.....
Yeah....as I always say, the M25 is one of the largest car parks around Still, sometimes it's the lesser of two evils putting up with packed roads. In my case- 2x 40 minutes on my blade every day vs. 2x 60 minutes on the District line. Or, in financial terms. Public transport per year: 3400.- vs. 'Blade transport': 1900.- per year. Meaning, from the savings I can get a good second hand blade roughly every 3 years. Some weekend fun inclusive. What a choice!
