Funnily enough I was just going to ask about the cheap ones from the States on Ebay. If they are £490 from Calsport even with Duty and VAT it would still have been cheaper wouldn't it? What is the deal with baffles and noise on these things? Do they have removeable baffles, can you buy them seperately (I think I have seen them) and with the baffles are they road legal? Is there any sort of a BS stamp on it and will the plod give any grief if you get stopped? RW
Hi Mike To secure the can to the bike, did you just clamp the tailpipe over the header & then fix the muffler with the clamp to the centre mount. I ask this as in the instructions, it mentions something about using the supplied bolt, washer & nut to fix the clamp which comes off the yoshi tailpipe to the frame. I have just fitted mine & didn't do the last part mentioned as my previous can didn't have this tailpipe clamp & was perfectly fine. Thanks Steve
You have the Yoshi can, the Yoshi link pipe, the small (about 10" long) Honda link pipe and the headers. Everything needed to mount the can was included in the box 'except' the clamp that attaches the 'small Honda link pipe' to the end of the headers where the CAT is. The can itself is mounted with the big Yoshi clamp that fixes to the centre mounting point, straightforward. The Yoshi link pipe connects to the frame same as the original link pipe, nut and bolt provided, straightforward. The bottom end of the yoshi link pipe connects to the top of the small Honda link pipe (clamp provided) but this was a twat, as the fit was super tight, I had to file all around the small Honda link pipe to reduce it's diameter a bit (I ordered a new one as the old one was very rusty) apart from that, straightforward. The small Honda link pipe is about 3mm larger in diameter at the bottom where it connects to the header. There is a special Honda packing seal made for this (£23) that slips over the header pipe and is compressed by the clamp (not provided with the Yoshi kit, I had to buy one) to create a good seal between the two. I was too lazy to order this so very neatly made a seal from gum gum and gum gum bandage from Halfords. It didn't work, it hardened over a week or so and eventually cracked, and fell apart, blowing like f***. I rectified this the other day using VHT silicone sealant and fibre glass bandage which I think will be ok. The fitting sequence was to first fit the Yoshi and Honda link pipes 'loosely' nothing tightened up, then to fit the can itself, sliding it onto the Yoshi link pipe, then to line everything up and tighten everything up.
Thanks The bit i didn't do it connect the yoshi link pipe to the frame. My old can didn't have the link pipe to frame connection option so i thought the Yoshi clamp to the centre mounting point & the Yoshi link pipe clamped to the Honda link pipe would be ok for this can too. I took it for a ride & all was ok but now i'm worried it won't be secure enough. Do you think it'll be ok or should i get back under there & try to fix the link pipe to the frame ? PS You're right. Getting the Yoshi pipe over the Honda link pipe was a bugger. I greased it up & got it over but i'm sure it could go another inch or two further.
If you've got an 07 model surely you should have the mounting point, unless Honda made a special one just for you? I'd think it wouldn't be solid enough long term without some fixing to the big link pipe.
Worried all night about the pipe so stripped it down and fixed the pipe to the frame as well as the other fixing points. Feel happier now. Thanks for your help Mike - made me get of my arse and do it properly. Thanks
