Just purchased my blade 2014 and love it. My only problem at the moment are small roundabouts. The throttle when it just starts to engage is quite jerky and 2nd gear slipping the clutch seems best but it just seems a little awkward. My old cbr600f was very smooth when taking up the free play. i have not tried first gear as i tjink this would be worse. I guess the speed would be around 25 - 30mph . If i only do 3/4 of the roundabout its better but its trying to maintain the constant throttle in 2nd gear. Any tips woukd be appreciated. Chris
Try adjusting the clutch to a bite point your happy with and also the throttle free play should be a couple of mm if it's less you get less control on the throttle (on or off feel) I have a 2013 blade and it's spot on, much much better than the Ducati 1098 I had
I have the exact same problem. Proper jerky, I darn't sneeze on a roundabout But trailing the rear brake as suggested helps alot as it stiffens up the bike and then simple slip the clutch. I get the same with slow riding in town sometimes too. Either I'm getting better at it or the bike is adapting too my throttle position.
I have read that its linked in to emissions and closing the valves. Perhaps a power commander would help. Its the only negative really as on my old 600 i could really whizz round this small island.
Could be a few things but I'd first check the chain slack, and as already mentioned by Jamie the free play in the throttle. If its a case of snatchy fuelling you could try a O2 eliminator or go the full hog and get a PCV.
Well mine is a new 2014 so hope chain is fine. I guess the lt bike is performing best when its on the gas. I will talk with the dealer when i take it in for its first service.
After the 2010 engine, all on/off shunt and inaccurate fueling rates , the 2014 is as smooth and glitch free from low revs as a high revving engine can be, get it checked out and set up properly, as this is the smoothest Blade engine ever designed since its creation. As stated check that chain adjustment, I adjusted mine 3 times before its 1st service, its now fine.
I don't experience this problem myself, however I remember when I first got my current blade riding with one hand in town when I his a hole in the road and my wrist made a sudden movement, that scared the Proverbial for a moment
On my 2012 blade ive got no problems with snachy throttle. Its sounds like chain adjustment to me. Do you have a can that removes the valve? cos if all else fails more noise and power will smooth it out
Try it in Second or even third mate. There's so much poke low down that even the slightest twitch on the throttle will send the 'revs' zooming in first gear. Choosing the next gear up gives the motor a little more to bite on and is much safer in the wet too. Your 'blade's so flexible it won't 'bog down'. Remember, you're on a bike that'll go smoothly from tick-over in top gear (22mph on mine) to fekin Waaaaaaarp speed without so much as a snatch.
Should be really smooth but I guess a bit pokier than a 600, try the above checks but after careful procrastination my assesment is MORE BEANS and MORE LEANS Providing its clear on the run up and dry you just absolutely chuck it in and out of a small roundabout 'surfing' is what most folk call it also check the revs next time below 2k the engine isn't happy even with a pcv
Adjust your chain. If my chain is even slightly slack it's as snatchy as buggery when trickling along using on and off throttle as it takes up the slop in the transmission. I do have a PCV on it which made no difference. It's the worst bike I've ever had for this but you adapt and learn to live with it.
Been told off by my advanced observer for doing exactly this. Made me take the roundabout in 2nd (12 blade) much much better feeling and I lay the bike much further over as well. Not sure he likes that idea of me getting my knee down while doing advanced training but still fun trying.
Funnily enough I was told to do this by 2 people who between them are RoSPA and IAM assessors/trainers, and are DSA/DSA Advanced. Got to love the consistency of bike training
Stabilizers!!!... failing that get your timing right ,use your brakes less approach slow wait till all's clear and small bit power and flow round the fecker
Now i have done a few more miles i seem to be a lot better it seemed to be trying to roll on and letting the clutch out at the same time. I think the problem is now with a positive on off clutch and a slight snatch when you roll on. Not sure if pc or adjustment of the throttle would help.
