Hi Exfire, yes you are right. I took a 1098s to BSD at the end of last year and as you say, Mark is very good, just not that close. Might be the right thing to do but I hadnt thought of him because I thought he was more into Ducati's.
I have checked anything that could be loose and this next video is with the seat unit and tank cover removed. The knocking is far more obvious now I am videoing from the right hand side. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s34XK_J7r5c&feature=youtu.be Thanks for watching and your views.
Alf, he works his magic on anything, have used him for a Ducati but also two Blades, he is doing my service next week plus a few extras.
Try adjusting the "Balance shaft" first , I had something similar to that noise , mine only could be heard once she had been thrashed most of the day.
Hi AlfG, your motor sounds very tappety, cam chain/tensioner sticking or worn. I would check valve clearances and cam chain tensioner first. To say that the motor is finished seems a bit dramatic to me, as the other guys say take it to someone who knows what they are listening to and go from there.
Was that rain drops or tears hitting the frame? Sounds quite cam chain like to me, but there is far better people on here that will give you a better answer
Race engineering dunmow are also good Few good places about near Suffolk mate. Sorry only asked incase ur profile was old or u was away or something like that mayb
There is several metallic sounds, when on light load I can hear a light tap (tappets) also as said above chain/tensioner defo either one or both. What I can make out which is maybe the said concerned sound is when you come off the power @41sec,,,when you unload/power off the throttle there is a heavy metallic sound that would concern me. I would rule out piston slap, does it burn oil? That deeper note I would aim in the direction of the bottom end. Try the old school method use a staff/broom handle cut down and hold on areas of the engine while holding the other end to your ear and try too pin point the noise location. Edit.... I so hope its not the above more loose engine bolt or something...
Ooooh, I think I'll get it over to BSD before I take it to Snet. Just to be sure, and safe. Thanks for all the replies, much appreciated.
Booked into BSD for the 25th July for suspected Cam Chain Tensioner. Fingers crossed that the first diagnosis was wrong and it is just that! I'll let you know how it goes. Damn I'm dying to get to Snet on this blade. They say you always want something more when you cant.
Yep! The verdict is big ends, and possible other unknown damage until its opened up. So has anybody got a CBR1000RR 2004 Engine that isnt knackered and in good condition? Many thanks.
I'd whip the engine out and get it stripped and re-built, I take it these engines can be re-built with no issues?
Well if that's the verdict so be it, yes they can be fully rebuild, I like to say better the devil you know than the devil you don't
any engine can be rebuilt, but,if the big ends gone,it could damage the crank, then the rod, then the piston, then the barrell, can turn out to be very expensive, but without dropping and splitting the motor you'll never know.but either way, even at the cheapest your looking over £500.
