Hello, Got around 5 miles into a ride and suddenly felt the bike surging and to much of what I though was engine braking at around 70mph... After about 30 seconds I released it was the rear end as I could "feel" it pulling me back from the rear brake. Got to a set of traffic lights and there was smoke pouring from the caliper I skidded to a stop form 30mph, even the grease was boiling. I stopped and let it cool before attempting to free the pad from the disk (which was nearly impossible with a flat blade) After getting it free I push it and pressed the rear brake for 10-15 mins and seemed OK... So nursed it home. Current status: I stripped the caliper off, piston is dark dark brown (normal?) very clean, no muck AT ALL but cleaned anyway. Then pushed the piston out a little and attempted to push it back, Nothing, not even a micron with all my force... so tried a bit of wood and a small clamp, nothing. Released the bleed nipple on the caliper a tiny amount with a valve on, and pushed the caliper out some more, with lots of force it now goes back to original position... easily?! So what on earth could it be?? Caliper re-furb kit and try again? please advise
When it comes to your brakes mate, especially after being roasted like that I would Defo be heading down the refurb route. Also the piston is normally silver mate, so yours may be warped or twisted due to the heat. Again you can get a replacement. It's just not worth the risk.
Yes exactly, but should i replace the R-master cylinder too? I'm just worried the issue was so instant with no trouble before, infact it was just the other month I was happy with how the rear brake was working. Best to get all parts (bar the rear master) lings honda online? or elsewhere.
Make sure the level is correct . Too much in the reservoir and when the fluid gets hot and expands it could apply the brake / make it bind.
I would try and avoid using a dealer for the new parts as they will cost an arm and a leg. There are always new items on eBay stripped from road bikes being converted for the track.

sounds like there an issue with a sticking piston,or contamination in your brake fluid,as under normal conditions, brake fluid wont expand or compress, but contaminents will with heat(namely water or air). try changing the fluid, and stripping the caliper
I'd wager (a very small amount) you have a little corrosion under the seals. If so, surprising you had this in the summer as its normally a result of road salt in the winter. Do you use the rear often? Even if you polish the corrosion out the finish will be degraded, rear units are cheap on ebay.
I'm going to refurb my caliper with new piston and seals. Also got a brand new complete rear M/S for £35. While I'm at it will do a braided line and new pads. Can't be doing with "could have changed this while I was there..was that the culprit?" Oh and yes I do use the rear brake, but only in traffic and for manoeuvre's.
So rebuilt everything.. All good. And firm pedal. But I can't get fluid with zero bubbles in when I bleed? It's not loosing pressure and as said already feels great. Could it just be the bleed nipple letting in air as I slacken it???
Well, may be talking to myself but I have sorted it! I whittled it down to two problems. 1. One way valve was forcing air past the bleed nipple Using the old school method with no valve worked a treat. 2. The 2No. crush washers supplied with the HEL line had not centered well upon torque setting and this was letting a TINY amount of air into the M/C. Once sorted there is now zero bubbles and a great peddle feel. Thought this may help someone in the future, who is as stupid as me...or as unlucky
