Hi, I'm the new proud owner of a 2005 fireblade and after riding a 636. Which I love the extra power but am finding the standard suspension setup a but unnerving upon catching a few cats eyes where it feels very jumpy and unsuitable. And just wondered if anyone has any setting advise for me? I'm 16.5 - 17 stone Any help would be appreciated.
A good starting point would be to check the suspension settings against those in the manual and put it back to standard - previous owners may have changed them. I've had an 07 and always found that fine on standard settings - coped well with bumps, cats eyes, changes in road surface etc.
As above mate. Go back to standard settings, or if your not confortable with playing with the settings get yourself to a suspension expert who will set the suspension for your weight and riding style. Probably the best £40 you could spend.
At your weight (I'm around the same within 1/2 a stone) you really need to up the spring rate in the forks as they are a bit soft. The rear will be fine. If your going as far as having them fitted you'd be as well as getting them set for you at the same time. You say that it is unnerving when hitting bumps, is this with the front or the rear of the bike?
As above get either a suspension specialist or a racing specialist who set peoples suspension up.Some dealers do it but I'd prefer a specialist.Mine cost £25 Tagg racing Kent but after running the bike I would have paid £100 the difference is night and day.Told him what I was experiencing and straight away he knew what was wrong.I had the rear way to soft and the front too hard.Not touched it since.
the while setup is standard including the sag. it sounds that the cost of a professional setup is worth the dosh . can anyone recommend anywhere in or near the peterborough area .
Watching the guy who set mine up do the job I'd never try it myself. And for £45 I can't think why I would. First job I'd do after getting a new bike is to take it back to him and have it set up. By far the best mod I've ever done.
Getting the suspension setup will help but the real problem is you are too heavy for the standard setup. You need replacement springs suited to your weight, the Oil in the forks and rear shock will be fecked also, so a service is well over due. Spend a few quid on the above and it will be transformed or check Ebay for some used Ohlins or K-Tech or Maxton Sussies

Hey Col do you have a sussies expert up you way? I don't mind paying £40 but I'm not willing to pay £100+ to ERS at Knockhill because that's pretty much taking the piss mate
I have watched loads of these videos on YouTube of this guy Dave Moss/on the throttle tv and he really seems to know what he's doing. If you watch enough of them you will start to understand what you are looking for. He's American and crosses over between metric and imperial all the time, most of its in lbs and inches but it's easily enough converted, also be careful that the sag figures are road/race whatever you are looking for.
