I'm now officially a Honda pilot after years of Suzuki's.... I just plumped up for a 08 1000 in tracktrim with some already trackday mods: Adjustable rearsets Braided brake lines front and rear quick fill fuel cap CRC lightweight woven race fairings Race pads up front HRC Bottle carrier up front Akrapovic DeCat Titanium race exhaust (long can type) GB Racing engine protection Im looking to fit in the next few days before the first track outing : quickshifter (from my current gsxr 1000) adjustable clip ons (to allow better adjustment for my riding style) renthals (upgrade from standard grips) Also looking for the following in the upcoming months: wets on wheels quick action throttle -1 front +1 rear sprockets Are there any other "must do" track modifications / upgrades for the 08+ fireblades that i should be aware of? I want to get at least a couple of TD's under my belt until i start thinking about having the suspension looked at by a proper company.
^^^ what James said.... If a ttx or similar comes up I'd say get one as the stock shock struggles on track and can destroy tyres.... Decent shock will pay for itself in no time
ok will keep an eye out, to be honest i'd rather get some TD's done on the blade before i start forking out for a new shock.
mostly on the road but do a few TDs here and there. Got the bike sorted in the most (for me) part but being an engineer at heart really interested in how I actually did in the last session. Would love to get some decent logging gear.
in my younger days i raced in formula 400 and had a GPS starlane athlon data logger, great piece of kit and OTT on the price, my mate now just buys a 10hertz bleeping thing, and an old android phone and does the same thing.... im going to pester him to get me one sorted once the new season starts, see how much slower i've got haha
do a few days on it first , then your better placed to see where you think the money needs to be spent
Congrats! I would say (from experience with the 09) that std suspension is not so bad.. Depends largely on your pace of course but I rode two seasons with std (serviced) suspension.
well had my first outing weekend just gone, bike was ace! felt well planted in the corners, gearing was a little out, so i've fitted -1 front +2 rear that should solved that issue. I had some air in the front brakes so whilst i was tackling that i fitted some brembo calipers and now they're rock solid. Having had suzuki's for a number of years i've become accustom to a gear indicator and i couldnt believe how much i missed it haha, so a aftermarket gear indicator will definitely be on the Christmas wish list (are there any brands to avoid?) also having QAT's on all my race bikes i've realise that the standard throttle turn is not "quick" enough and leads to wrist fatigue, so will be getting a HRC qat soon. anyway here is a action shot from anglesey, weather was touch and go but had a great weekend !
Defo sort suspension asap.. I've had ohlins in mine and once set up the tyres wear lovely and last a lot longer .. Looks a lovely Nike that.. Kev is a decent bloke who sees people right.. Enjoy it
cheers mate, gonna see how i get on really, as i spent shit loads on my last track bike (WP supersport forks and shock) and tbh i didnt really see a massive difference, so im either not fast enough or just not good enough to tell the difference lol
