Repsol wheel paint

    Whenever I polish the wheels on my Repsol the polishing cloth has a definite Orange look to it. I am using MER I don't think its that abrasive. Any other Repsol owners have similar problems ?

    I had the same issue with mine and that was about 06 .It didn't seem to make much difference to the factory finish although it's disturbing at the time .if it's chain wax you are removing just use Pledge Furniture polish

    Its normal mines' the same... Polish has an abrasive in it. use WD or somthing with no 'cut'

    I've never had this using poor boys wheel wax or Dodo Juice wax?

    Yep - me too if I have to use wheel cleaner. Like Mike said, if you can get away with just WD40, it's normally OK.

    I think the paint on those orange wheels must be soft, or perhaps you just notice it more on the cloth with such a vibrant, lovely colour. Anyway I believe most Polish has a fine abrasive in it as standard. I think a Wax is just that and it will just shine the surface rather than clean it like Polish. Please don't say mine's a wax/polish, that's too much for my meagre mind. I clean my wheels with Mucoff, white spirit, cellulose thinners (be careful) WD or anything else that will shift the muck, but only polish them for special occasions or before a run. Makes them easier to clean when you get back. Since I started to use Dry Lube I have a lot less cleaning to do tho.

    I use halfords degreaser to clean mine, cleans really easy with no orange on cloth

    Haha...bikes is for riding..not just for sunbathing with..

    If Marquez can ride his Repsol in torrential rain then so can I lol...but I'll use rain tyres rather than slicks cause I'm sensible like that :D

    Tom, looks like it's been hit by a fallout from the old Wilton site (shame you all those lovely shiny extra's fitted hidden by the grime)

    I have had the same on mine - it's now starting to show the white undercoat in a few spots so have had to look into places to get them powder coated again.

    Anyone had any experience of getting them re-done?

    As the answers already given:

    Polish is abrasive - Wax isn't . You shouldn't continually use polish, only when you need to restore the shine.

    The colour comes off because they are a single stage finish ( not clear coated ). Does anyone know if they are powder coated or painted from the factory ?, I would have guessed powder, but if they are polishing through to white that suggests paint.

    Acid strip and powder coat is the way to go for refurb.
