Scooby, you guys will love this, I only use a torque wrench to torque cylinder heads down, in stages. I don't generally use one as I have learnt over the years and stripped a few threads with torque wrenches, that I can tighten a bolt into an aluminium crankcase without stripping the thread or the bolt coming loose. I bought the Lidl one for people to use when I am showing them how to work on their bikes. Fair point Matt. The Teng ones are good quality, but not sure if they are any more accurate or repeatable than Aldi. I would be interested in how people prepare bolts and bolt holes ready for torquing up. A lot of mistakes made in just this part. As for torquing up a wheel spindle nut, just tighten it until you FART !
thats actually a good point regarding how clean threads are, bolt holes etc.thread lock on bolts or copper slip on caliper bolts will effect the torque values due to too the lubrication of said fluid,so in theory you will be over torquing your bolts.
torque till you fart.... love it .... if i did that everything would go ping... i used to snap wheel bolts on a car all the time... too heavy handed to do that.... im not skilled enough to know that enough i need a number to say stop
I have no mechanical skill whatsoever but what I would say is, I bought the Aldi wrench and I've used the Aldi TW to take off the wheels from my bikes and they work just great. When I bought it from Aldi I was shopping for snacks and spent less than £28 and come away with a TW and tons of food and drinks too! It's a fair old size too. If they brought out a smaller version I'd have no probs buying another.
Have to agree with Scooby, torque values change with condition of bolts/nuts being torqued by that i mean lubed or dry and also tensile strength of said bolt. A good torque guide will give the correct values for the condition/type of fastener.
listen I ll tell you all what its like when I get mine.......tom ! ................along with my cheap food substitute's !!!!!!!
I have already got this one..... use it every now and again (when i have too cos i am scared !) I would have liked a digital one where you just put in the number of torques (sp) you want and away you go.... but i understand they cost a fortune and for what i do with it that seems a waste.
I like the sound of that. To use one of my torque wrenches it's necessary to convert the required torque (usually quoted in Nm) onto a kg_m scale of 10 units per 1.4kg_m. What a pain!
So will someone who already has one of these put the rest of us out of our misery by posting it's range and drive size?
Well I got it............ Will try it out at weekend when I fit the serviced 2012 forks and re valved (all by Ktech) 2012 rear shock !! but hey that's a different story !! Compared it to a good mate who's got the draper and it's very similar 3yr warranty too can't be bad Now munching my malt flakes !!
Just to stir things up a bit like...................... http://www.trackdayriders.co.uk/tdr/forum/major-balls-up_topic51123.html
lol, I read that when it was posted and thought it was his car, a Vauxhall Signum, then I realised he wrote Sigma clutch
