I'm putting a new one on. When I take the old one off, will I get a surprise, ie springs or washers landing on the floor...
    Thanks,
    Mike.

You might want/need a new gasket also

Can be a bit fidley, it won't go straight on , you need to locate the shaft and then slide it back a few mm before locating on the down pins.

You need to take the inspection cover off to rock the crankshaft to and fro for the starter and idler shafts to align precisely into the cover. There is no gasket requires just silicone sealant.

So I understand (I've not worked on a blade much, but am fairly handy), remove the inspection cover, before taking the casing off. Work the shaft end, to take any tension out of the drive train? so the starter and idler shafts will seat nicely when reassembling.

taken the side cases off the 07 engine quite a few times in the past (and I mean quite a few...),never had an issue re aligning the starter/idle wheel,nd never had to remove the insoection cover,or wiggle the crank?

just put the starter gear an shaft in the correct place, andn carefully put the cover on,tapping it onto the locating pins.and no,no gasket, just sealant.but go easy with sealant,ou don't need a lot.

Thanks for that chaps, Don't want to make an easy job hard, I've never done that before! I'm off work next week so I can do it at leisure.

I've changed the cover, bit of a fiddle getting the new one back on, I couldn't get it at first (new cover) so I slightly chamfered the land entrances for the starter and idler shafts with a large countersink. This worked and with a wiggle and a thump the bugger mated. Seems oil tight.... Happy me.
    Thanks for the help chaps,
