That's sounds really bad, has it been fixed or are you still waiting? I've listened to the two videos a few times and they sound similar but think that they are very slightly different. I was initially playing with the idea of buying an engine but think I'm going to put the blade on the bench (which I don't yet have) and drop the lump out, and inspect the gear box. Usually ride all year round, but suppose it wont hurt the blade to have a winter rest! I will try to keep my progress logged on the forum.
I ordered a crank from the states and along with pistons/rods and a new gearbox it was £600. Rebuild cost is about £400 and gaskets are about £200. A 2nd hand engine varied between 1500-2000 and you dont know the condition of it, so I went with the rebuild. Hope this helps
I paid £1,200 for a replacement engine from Yorkshire Gooner, I live close enough to collect this. Its a close call on rebuild vs replacement engine, but I know Mark would not sell anyone pup of an engine so trusted him.
Nope I am getting a very well known engine builder to do it. I could maybe do it but no one would buy a bike with an engine I built whereas resale from a good engine builder is no problem
