Marion has a 12 plate with no problems over 18 months and 8000 miles. However ive ridden it a handful of times and twice the lever has come to the bar !! ive asked this before, but is it the rider or the bike ??
2014 SP I've had front lever to the bars once and problem on track 3 times the same day braking hard then no bike no slowing but front brake lever solid. Went back to dealer for brake bleed but week after getting it back crashed on the road and I'm still on the mend and so is the bike so haven't tested it since :-( My 2011 Repsol had the front lever to the bars twice but after dealer bleeding system it didn't do it again.
2013 1000rr which has just been run in (so not many miles as yet) but no problems. Touch wood. Hope it never happens to me, having the lever back to the bar sounds terrifying. It would really knock my confidence in the bike.
No real problems as yet, but will still be ripping it all out over the winter months, as I know that it will eventually go wrong at some point.
You get used to it mate. Once you understand what's happening and how to resolve it, it lends weight to Hondas stance there is nothing wrong with the shite system, if it don't stop on 1st pull of the lever, then come off and reapply again, it always works 2nd time. So Hondas right after all, just adjust your riding style till you find a way to make the thing stop somehow.
Though I've not had any trouble with the system myself I have considered removing it but I suspect that's easier said than done. Don't you think you might encounter a few ECU/electronics issues? Have you re-searched the process? Keep us posted (with pic's ) when your doing it Colin? Nick.
Speak to Swiss T. Here's his thread explaining how to disable ABS by removing a fuse. I think he then went further and removed the whole thing. http://1000rr.co.uk/maintenance/7132.htm
Don't think Swiss removed his abs system, he originally removed the fuse but then later was happy with the system after performing regular fluid changes on the system. Also removing the main abs fuse does not completely shut down and bypass the abs system, there are other power feeds going into the abs system so it can still partially function. Plus you are still having to push fluid through the abs componentry before the fluid pushes the caliper pistons out to apply the brakes.
2011 ABS. 3000 miles. Lever felt different once when filtering at sub 5 mph and once on the drive when I rolled the bike backwards with the brake partially applied. No issues EVER when applying at speed and no issues on track. It's never been bled and I plan to do it over winter.
Had 2012 ABS model. Leave back to bar on quite a few occasions. Honda did full bleed of system and this made it better but still happened once or twice now traded it in on non ABS
