Hi guys, Ive had my 06 RR for 6 months now, I can't get the handling sorted, It's stable in fast corners but dosent like changing direction and almost has a headstock wobble at slow speeds, everything is tight and ive tried various settings. if i cant get it right, it's days are numbered. Or if anyone has proven settings they wish to share. thanks for any advice.
Sorry to say this but they,re one of the sweetiest handling bike out there , even with standard settings so I expect you,ve been twiddling too much , sum fin is drastically wrong with your tyres , or suspension, your a fat bastard or you expect too much from it ? . What are you comparing it with ?
Ps......I have a set of settings when MCT did mine but they also slipped in a set of springs and spacer so would be useless for your bike.
Thanks for the input, im 13st , super corsa sp's, 15 years racing experience, All i can say at the moment its well off the mark, I know the blade has it in it, it's just finding it. I'm comparing it against 4 R1's, I bought the Blade on the understanding they handle so well and build quality. It's got decent power now,(162bhp) at the wheel, just shite in the corners.
When you say everything is tight what exactly have you checked? Bearings? Wheels and headstock? Wheel alignment? Damaged buckled wheel or tyre? Has the damping adjusters been tampered with? Fork height been altered from stock? How many miles has the bike done?
One thing is for sure Something is wrong. The things are on rails, a novice would feel happy. Before you sell it spend a few quid with a guy that knows the Blade and something will come to light, poor handling to the extent you are talking about would suggest something obvious. Mike.
Yeah bearings checked, everything is in line, fork height is stock as i dont think you can lower the yokes on these, no buckles in the wheels, everything is as it should be altho I do like to get the front end down and the arse up, I like quick steering. Don't get me wrong its not trying to throw me off, its doing 1.28's around croft but its a real handful, you really have to take it by the balls where my R1's tip in much better and change direction much faster and I know the Blade can match it. The bike has never been crashed and its done 12K, Im guessing the damper is working as it should because at speed its more stable. Ive been thinking about to put some Ohlins fork springs and rear shock on it.
I'd check that there is actually oil in the forks, incase 1 has had a blown seal and emptied all it's oil. Sounds silly but a mate bought his 07 HRC and had this scenario.
Tezza.. I changed my 06 suspension for Ohlins rear, and a Matris cartridge kit and the handling went worse! was shocking - tracking the bumps in the road etc.. Went and got it set up at knockhill and the bike was night and day.. I changed my suspension because I also wasn't that confident in the suspension that was on.. but probably only needed set up to be honest. One of my pals has a 2007 and his bike handles very well.. all standard. Just needs set up mate.
Give Darren at MCT a bell......he use to throw a 06/7 round a fair few tracks in his time , as far as I know he,s the only suspension guy that shims/ fits a spacer in the front . Ps.......at 13 stone your not a fatty.........but it had to be said lol
Tanks for the advice and input, sorry for the late reply but ive just smashed in a 13hour shift down the mine. Ill give MCT a ring and hopefully come up with something, I think the bike is stunning and dont really want it to go. I have chance of a new Ohlins rear shock for £600 delivered from the US with the correct spring and basic set up, I think its a no braner, what do you guys think ?
I have Ohlins rear and MCT internals with weight matched spring and oil in my RR6 and it handles better than any bike I have ever had and I have had a few. I did not like the stock suspension when I first got the bike so MCT changed the spring and oil and did a full set up and it made a big improvement. I still wanted a bit more though and then went for the other upgrades and it really does do anything I ask of it, even when I make a c*ck up on a bend.
Thanks gringo, the bike was like it when I got it, it was really bad, Ive Googled various settings and give them ago, its better than it was, I did a few 40 minute sessions at croft and I was breathing out my arse and serious arm pump hanging on to it, its a full body core workout trying to get it around.
I know its slightly off topic but back in 2000, I had the privilage of owning and racing a brand new Honda RS 250, gp bike. now that bike could handle, mind blowing corner speed and direction changing.
I've the Ohlins shock as in your picture and its a great upgrade.. not cheap but worth it if your planning to keep the bike
Thanks again lads for the advice and messages, well ive took the plundge and ordered the Ohlins shock thats in the picture, brand new in the box and delivered for £570, So how far do you have to go with with forks, springs and new oil or further, then Ill get it in to get set up ? Now starting to looking out for a ported head and cams Thanks agains lads.
Definitely get the suspension looked at as perhaps the last owner had the springs changed to suit their weight! Even with the new ohlins fitted get a suspension guru to have a look as might still need a bit of adjustment
Thanks Sps, yeah I will get it set up, the shop where I'm getting the shock say they have had 15 years experience with Ohlins and they have put the correct spring on for me and put a good base setting on it for my weight, Im looking forward to getting it but they might be abit of import duty Looks like I'm keeping the bike
