Perfect for the off road equivalent though...
    Great day out.

It's a duck pond, which has flooded a little bit on to the track.
Only a couple of inches deep where the bike is.
I thought the reflection made a good pic.

There's a bit of icy slush on the surface of the pond though - frost over night.

2500 doesn't get you much. An old Suzuki DR or Kwak KLR, or a tatty Honda XR maybe.
But bargains crop up if you know what to buy and don't mind changing bearings and stuff - off road bikes often have a hard life, but are simple to fix and parts are reasonably cheap.

Mine is an xr650r plenty modified, spent its early life as a super moto.
I paid small money, but spent a lot later rebuilding it.

Dirt bikes do seem to hold value better than sports bikes at the moment.
And cheaper to run. £80 fully comp, and £100 for a rear tyre!

Very nice! I really must get myself a muddy bike again soon...

Binned_it - what is the contraption out in front of the fork crown, which looks like it has a race number board attached to it?

The XR is kick start only, with a condenser instead of a battery, basic electrics and crap lights. I wanted to run charging points for GPS, better lights and a rally road book. The thing sticking out the front is a basic nav tower for a road book: I bolted it to the headstock, and then fitted an uprated reg/rec, LiOn battery pack, fuse block, wiring etc... and made a box to keep the mud off the electrics.

The red thing on the end is the headlights and flashers.
I also have a mini fairing and LED spots for rally's, but they aren't MOT compliant, so this is the road setup rather than the rally setup.
