I'm riding road, but more country side then hopefully a few track days. I don't have braided hoses but have come across that today and have sbs pads. Also had the suspension set up professionally. Final question with a Akron / arrow system (just as an example) and pcv how much improvement am I expected to see in the midrange? Will it feel like a new bike.?
Being able to stop is another useful thing, so having braided hoses will help on track. If you find you are doing more track than road riding over time, then it is worth looking at a rear shock from Ohlins/K-Tech/Maxton/Nitron and a re-valve kit for the forks. As for exhaust and PCV etc., it is hard to say how improved it will feel, but I would be surprised if you don't notice a difference. It will however, ensure that the engine is getting fuelled correctly.
IMO if ur not on track u dont need more power. Suspension, brakes and BST wheels and race bling not bling bling. Ohlins or Ktech or Maxton suspension or Showa HRC shock. Brembo brake and clutch m/c's, Brembo or AP calipers, HM Dash, Harris QR or race swing arm, captive Bremco rear reservoir, Brembo discs. Sorted.
When I bought my rr5 from new I didn't realise it was only making 98bhp, reason being, on my favourite roads in North Yorkshire I could really hold my own against most bikes out there! Only really noticed it when I went to the TT on the Mountain section. Anyway, had it dynoed and he asked if it was an import, it was. It was sold as a full power model so I went back to the dealer and he sorted it with no quibbles. The moral is, you don't need any more than 100bhp on the road as I found out! Now bear in mind, this bike had standard exhaust, standard brakes but had been fitted with an Ohlins rear shock and a stage one conversion on the front forks. Paid for a suspension set up at Kais (suspension specialist near me) and fitted with a PC111 power commander and a custom map. When I had the bike de-restricted it made 145bhp and I couldn't ride it any faster on the road! In fact, if anything, I was slightly slower, just couldn't get the power down! This bike is now my trackbike and is regularly featured on here. I've just had the engine ported and re-profiled cams fitted in the hope of gaining an extra 20bhp. By the way, I'd already done a few other mods and the bike was previously making 156bhp, so now I'm hoping for around 170-175bhp. This would be completely wasted on the road but should be a very usable power gain on the track, as I'm now competing against Kwaks and BeeEms making in excess of 180bhp.
Wow that's really interesting, i take the moral of the story but do feel that the bike just isn't as fast as I expected when I bought it. At points this is very noticeable compared with some of the bikes I ride with, a lot of them 600s and I really felt it when an sv650 left me behind. Now it is very possible that my skill set isn't there and the sv guy is just a better rider but instinctly I feel the bike should be delivering more. It definitely going for a dyno before I spend money on it.
Most guys including myself can't really get the most out of a thou on the roads unless they're huge sweepers. Been taken by a vfr400 before now on a road that I know like the back of my hand! By the way, believe me, your bike is extremely fast! Dyno will tell you if there's a problem or not......good move.
Good thread this, im in a similar boat with my RR5. Think ill be doing some mapping asap and a suspension set up. Worth noting if you want a quickshifter and have a PC3 you will need the 'ignition module' for the top 4 injectors.
yes agreed, it has been helpful. I am going with the easy thing first and looking at the gilles shift support, getting it on a dyno and all being well look at an exhaust system and pcv or III. I am half hoping they tell me they bike is restricted so i can have alot more with not much expenditure.
Stanley.. I have the RR6.. PC3 and HM Plus QS and you do not need the ignition module for the top injectors..
This was on the assumption you would be using a Dynojet QS etc. Id love the HM unit but its low on my list of affordables atm lol.
