About to remove by shock but before even beginning having trouble removing the K-Tech remote preload adjuster. Anyone removed one, whats the best way to get at the allen bolts? Ive emailed the boy that put it on but thought id ask here too. Thanks
Its a 2013 ABS, as you can see its a very small space were the preload knob connects to the plastic side, have taken off bolts from the side (triangle part) thought it would loosen so i could pull it out and get at the adjuster but no joy. Maybe need to get to it by the battery compartment or by the exhaust valve direction? Heres some pics
When i say 'taken off bolts' its the stock bolts below the seat to try and remove that bodywork the adjuster is behind not the allen bolts holding on the K-Tech adjuster
Now that i look at the pics i think i just need to take off the plastic around exhaust valve and above rear wheel??
Adjuster bolts to triangular bracket, which bolts to pillion peg position on subframe and to get to them, you need to remove rear body plastic, lift under tray and split subframe. Bit of a mare but take your time and it's doable.
Thanks I'd started to go that way and it is a long haul! Yes I'm selling my bike so selling the shock separately, going to put it in the For Sale section.
You messaged me saying its done 1500 miles. But you posted on Oct 13 you had done 3500 miles on it then ? This what you posted. I recently had a K-tec 35DDS shock fitted to my bike. I have since done 3500mls on bike but from the start thought the rear was too hard, but no matter what i did with the remote preload adjuster it didnt make any difference to the bike. I will contact the dealer shortly but thought id try for answers here first. I believe the remote adjuster isnt working, well not that it isnt working just that it cant work with this shock. I will try to explain below and maybe im completely wrong? I'll give it a miss thanks.
Ok Columbo! To be honest didnt know how many miles were on it, bike hasnt been ridden since Summer 2013, i cant remember what i did last week not to talk about when i sent that post, theres 5000mls on it now so i just thought id done about 1500mls on the shock but i was obviously wrong but hands up it doesnt look good, well spotted
Got Remote Adjuster off by using a small allen key after taking off exhaust valve cover but adjuster bracket still on but may be able to get at it with a cut down allen key and maybe dont have to take half the rear plastic apart to get at it. Anyway at least now i can get the shock out but i think i might bin it cause it seems it has 3500mls on it
Another one off my bucket list, replaced a rear shock. Not as bad as i thought the most scary bit was putting it up on axle stands with a jack but once there it was quite stable. But something i didnt count on was when put down on stands it was at a lean because the right stand got contact before the left when both positioned just to the rear of the front pegs but was fine. I lifted the rear with my paddock stand before putting car jack under gearbox which seemed to help. But if your buying a shock and thinking of putting it on yourself personally id pay the boy your getting it from (eg kais or maxton etc) to mount it for you, its not overly difficult but its alot of sweat and hassle and i think for the home mechanic like me anytime you put your pride and joy up on axle stands it all could end in an explosion of expensive smashed fairings and bent metal.
