Whent to move the bike this morning and thought this is difficult to move. Eventually I noticed the rear tyre was flat and then located the source of the problem. Do you guys know if this can be repaired? And will it be ok afterwards. One other thing car tyre places can't repair bike tyres, are they missing out on a source of revenue? image.jpg

    Easily fixed that is.

Some Peeps can't feel settled knowing a tyres been fixed so prefer to buy new, but that's up to them and their wallets.

Repair not a problem provided it's done right. Had two punctures in the same tyre within 100miles from new. Rode it till the wear indicators and then changed it out. Never had an issue riding with a repaired tyre in over 25 years riding.

    Got this somewhere, may help.
If It's true it may have an insurance implication.
    Mike.

Avon, Bridgestone Continental, Dunlop, Metzeler and Pirelli all approve repairs to their motorcycle tyres in accordance with British Standard BS AU 159/f (now replaced by BS AU 159G:2013) which states:-

Up to and including J speed rating (62 mph)
2 repairs per tyre, not exceeding 6mm in diameter

Above J speed rating and up to V speed rating (149 mph)
1 repair per tyre, not exceeding 3mm in diameter

The above repairs must be restricted to the centre tread area, 25% of the nominal section width either side of the tyres centre line. Repairs must only be made using a mushroom-type plug.

Michelin is the only manufacturer the approves repairs to it's W and Z speed rated tyres. All Michelin tyres are permitted to have 2 repairs per tyre with a maximum diameter of 6mm.

Financially if the tyre is past 3/4 used I cant see the point, say it costs £25.00p to get it repaired, ride in ride out. Then I would get a new tyre. You could get it done cheaper if you remove it and refit it. I can think of other things I would rather do. Start putting your time into the equation its looking like making life difficult to save not much. I have to say I may have a jaundiced view as I'm a new tyre man on fast bikes.

Came out of work one day to see a large screw protruding from rear tyre. Screwed it in tight, rode it home then took wheel off to get the puncture repaired. Tyre lasted another year no problems before it was replaced due to wear.

I repair my own, no problem, mushroom plug and a patch on top for good measure, I've run tyres with three in before, that's the joy of a workshop in a builders yard!

Needless to say I also fix my car tyres, lost count how many now, I can remove the wheel fix the puncture and be back out in 45 mins :)

Yeah nothing wrong with plugging a tyre if done correctly. Did 3000 plus miles with one in my GSXR and had no issues.

Thanks for that but if you take your tyre to a motorbike shop an apprentice is going to fix it (probably thinking of his sexy girlfriend) seriously would you let some apprentice parachutist pack your parachute? I WOULDNT! They say it takes 10000hrs to get good at something as i said BUY A NEW TYRE
