Not a thread I've seen.. did my first track day in September on my own bike and the fairly new Metzler M7's still looks in good nick. We had 10 x 20 min sessions that day and I was definitely more knackered than the tyres that evening haha.. Question is, after 10 track session heat cycles, would you trust these tyres on the road afterwards.. and what about the track? I'm planning a first day out end of March at Knockhill weather permitting, and wondering if the tyres would be better changed? Not sure but if it's any help mine looked a lot worse than that and I rode all the way across France on them afterwards, it rained a lot too !
Tyres will be fine to use again mate. I use Pirelli Rosso Corsas for road and track work and only change them when they're down to the wear markers.
Raced on these mate at my 1st weekend...not ideal but not end of the world...... They are good to go! Spec on the road....
They will wear of nicely lol... Honestly, only one I could find. Had worse.... My ttx saved all that. Well worth the money!!
so all the heat cycles will not affect the tyre? read on another thread the other day that a front tyre had one too many cycles and was the suspected culprit for losing the front?
Can't afford the TTX just yet but maybe something similar for the track bike in a few months (more overtime required !)...
as usuall people try to find fault with something when they crash, whereas 99% it's their own fault.1 too many heat cycles is a load of bollox tbh, maybe if it's been on/off warmers 15 or 20 times the rubber will start to harden, but it will be long worn out by then anyway.heat cycles are becoming a thing of the past these days (according to manufacturers),and it's good old fashioned tyre wear that determines the longevity of a tyre.
nice one scoob.. its always a wee worry in the back of your mind that i would bin it based on a worn the, but I guess a few miles on the road and all the little worn rubber will just wear off..
Think it depends really... A track day and few ride outs ect I wouldn't worry, hot - cold - hot - cold track day after day you'll kill it with heat cycles (why warmers are used) but I've done td's and toured on same tyres and never had an issue..... My front after a day at brands.... Looks fecked... Smoothed over on the next track day. And felt fine?? And the difference the ttx made. After a day and a half..... Seems expensive but if your doing plenty track time. Pays for itself pretty quick imo
The pro's push similar tyres a lot harder than us mere mortals and stay mostly upright, rubber technology has moved on a lot in recent years, saying that I'll pass on the Pirelli's when it's wet thanks all the same !!!
rear tyre wear doesn't come much better than that jimbo, maybe you could pass on how to do it to Jase,I tried but made no difference
Ha ha... Mine is sweet as now... Starts to go off and couple clicks and it dials back in. Honestly think tc doesn't help. Plus jase is just a hamfisted northern monkey lol. Seriously though, mines so good now the tyres are goosed, and know they are off but I've seen worse sold as scrubs. Learnt the hard way at donny though. Appearance isn't everything lol
K3 is road. I use k1&2 track tyres mate... But the Pirelli and metzeler racetec / super corsa are the same tyres unless I'm mistaken Edit - Sorry mate your on m7. They will be fine as plenty meat on. But I'd be surprised if Pirelli didn't have same tyre as m7 with own tread and branding
Those M7's will be fine mate. I butchered mine in an 8 day trackday erm I mean jolly on our Spain tour and they are still good.
It's a road tyre and is designed to go through heat cycles. Think how many times you ride, stop, ride again. Ok they don't get as hot as they do on track but it really won't be an issue. As others have said heat cycles aren't the issue they were even with slicks.
