So to try and resolve my front end judder which was recently made ten times worse after having my Ohlins 30mm cartridges fitted, the front brakes were squealing also. After I stripped the callipers (again) and tried another set of brake pads I had no joy in curing it. So today I thought that I would remove the discs from the wheels and see where the problem lies. Checked the discs and they are good, well within tolerance, so I checked the wheel next to see if that was straight.. yes all fine there, so then I checked the bearings, one side felt fine the other a tad notchy, so I removed the bearings from the wheel and spun it up on my lathe, what a bloody noise!! It seemed all fine spinning it by hand but once I got it up to 100mph plus it vibrated like hell!! Yes that is rust amongst the grease!! it was seizing as it got hot and with a load on it.
Bearings replaced cost £30. They managed just 20,000 miles. Will be inspecting the rears next week to see how they have faired.
Your Blade is 'bearing up' as well as mine did. 20k - 25k is roughly what mine lasted. The rear sprocket carrier failed at a trackday at about 55k when bike run back to back sessions after the rear nut had been over tightened by a tyre fitter (was a nightmare to undo bolt so suspect that the cause). headbearings changed about 70k
Blimey what a difference new bearings make. My bike is sooo smooth now, had not realised how bad it was.
Funnily enough, I have a front judder issue on the brakes too. Forks, headstock etc all seem fine, calipers recently spring cleaned with new pads, and discs seem ok. My next shout was bearings, so I'm encouraged by this. Where to buy bearings then?
