Hi Guys, After a month or two of working too much, finally found time to work on the road to race conversion. Installed the Bazzaz ZFI in a couple of hours and next on the list was the HM GP SS quickshifter..... It's stumped me and I need help: This is what arrived in the HM box: Connectors are: 4 x Coil connectors 1 x Coil loom to QS cable ( yellow / red plug) 1 x circular plug - QS cable to white / yellow / blue cables. 1 x lugged cable (earth) This is the info in the user guide: Here is what I need help with please : RED - Power feed - I don't seem to have this - any ideas anyone ? BLACK - this is the small lugged cable. GREY - Again, I don't seem to have this colour cable. BLUE - Speed Signal - This will be connected on to the pink/green cable ( see photo courtesy of Bazzaz) YELLOW - RPM - Connect to CPS cables - any idea what colour is the signal cable ? (see photo courtesy of Bazzaz) WHITE - I have no idea where to connect this. What is the LIN databus and do I need the shifter signal ? I don't have a throttle blipper so the third option is ruled out. I'm not an electrician, so if anyone can offer ideas as to the best way to splice the three cores into the bike cables it would be very helpful . Thanks in advance and hope people can help PS. Did a lot of searching but couldn't find much specific info. Saw that videos were on the cards but couldn't find those either.
I fitted an hm gp at Xmas and there was no cutting and splicing involved, all plug and play. The unit draws power from the coils so no other power connection. The black cable went on with an m6 bolt to threaded hole on top of gearbox. The only thing I needed was a small extension piece to join 2 halves of loom past the throttle bodies. Feel free to message me if you need more info.
i'd say the "1 x circular plug - QS cable to white / yellow / blue cables." is of no use.. From the looks of your paper based manual there, you have the HM Plus SS and not the HM GP shifter.. the Plus SS online manual states: Wiring: The supplied loom simply plugs in-line with the Ignition Coils. The only other connection is the ground strap which must be connected to a reliable ground (NOT the valve cover [cam cover]). So the only plug&play connections are to the coils and a reliable ground... Manual is downloadable from the website's download page..
The picture of the kit is the GP, it does require the blue and yellow wiring connecting have all functionality- It's different to the SS and Plus in this respect. It does also have the black/ground connected, the red refers to the red ringed plug that connects to the coil wiring- So simply plug that in. Connect it to the points listed on HM's site either by new pin connectors in the actual plugs or by splicing onto the wires (I'd solder and heat shrink if done this way) That red two way plug is one, the other is a three way connector on the top of the gearbox, it's right next to the red plug in the pictures. From HM's site: HONDA RPM is Yellow. NOTE: One the CBR1000RR this is usually in a RED two way connector that resides on the main brace between the frame near to the rear shock top mount. One the CBR600RR this is usually in a back two way connector that is clipped near the rear of the airbox seam on the right hand side of the bike above the throttle bodies. SPEED is a PINK/GREEN (VSS three pin connector) NOTE: The connector for the SPEED sensor is usually directly on the speed sensor which is located on top of the gear box (directly under the tank) to the rear of the engine. This is of course if you have the kit that's in the actual picture you've posted, which is the GP- The SS also has a metalic silver sticker around the strain gauage.
Thanks for the replies - I do have the HM GP quick shifter and didn't notice that the quick-setup guide was for a HM Plus. Seems mostly clear about what to do now - just need to wait to get some scotchlok connectors ( same as on the Bazzaz unit) as I don't have a soldering iron ( if I did, I'd probably melt the cable...) Thanks.
Sure you have the GP then mate?- All GP's come with these looms and are wired this way, unless you don't and then loose some of the functionality.
It's a 2012 I've got, there is def a plug and play loom available that saves having to splice cables, much easier and neater install. Where did you buy from? If it was HM they should have offered that option.
Def the GP mate, got it from Arthur when they had the offer on end of last year. Doesn't appear to have any limited functionality, don't need a blipper control on blade anyway.
So did you connect to the red crank position and black wheel speed sensors? There may well be a harness now that saves actually splicing the cables, but how does the full functionality of the GP work without connecting these and using just the coil connections? (Genuine question, not challenging what you’re saying) Assume you used a laptop to set the GP up and read the logs?
The loom plugs into the speed and crank sensors similar to the way the coils connect, then everything sets up and logs as normal using a laptop. Think the loom was new out when the forum deal was on last October.
That sounds a much better way than the unit I have ! Not sure why I've got the 3 x bare wire version - only got it a few weeks ago !
