I have a 2007 RR7 Fireblade - it's got 11,500km (7,000 Miles) on it and it's due for it's next service. Usually I'd just send it to a dealer but I want to do more stuff myself and I have a friend is going to help me who's pretty handy and does all his own service on his bikes. But I need some advice please...

I just need to buy the parts I need but I want to make sure I get the correct stuff. Can anyone advice me? So is it just Oil and Oil filter? I also need brake pads - but not sure which ones to get. Would prefer to buy all from one place. Any suggestions?

    Thanks..

Have a look in your user manual/service guide, it'll list all the things that need replacing and inspecting at each service interval. If its a basic service then in essence it's oil and filter which should be about £40 saving a heap on dealer prices. Last time I checked my local dealer (Blade Swindon) was advising £150 for a basic service inc. parts and labour.

I am just doing a full service myself so oil, filters, plugs etc., MUCH cheaper than dealer prices assuming you are happy to do the work yourself.

I recently bought a genuine Honda service kit from ebay (seller was Blackpool Honda iirc) for £39. The kit came with a genuine air filter, oil filter, oil filter removal tool and a sump plug washer. Not sure how that compares to buying them from a dealer, but I wanted genuine OEM Honda and was in no rush to get them. They were delivered within 2 days :)

Looks like the same kits for the 04-07 bikes are more expensive: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-H...it-B-Oil-Air-Filter-Washer-Tool-/281099317945

Halfords was also surprisingly cheap for Castrol Power 1 Racing oil that I used. Check out Opie oils too (forum discount available) :)

Used on a number of occasions now and great service (and advice!) every time.

Thanks guys, I'm told the Air Filter is a 2 piece - does it need to be changed? One guy suggests cleaning only...

Don't know if yours is, but I've not seen a two piece filter on any of my bikes.

Personally I inspect filters every time I service the bikes, seem them perfectly fine after 10k and the opposite after 2k- Really depends on the environment the bikes rode in.

OEM filters should be replaced not cleaned IMO.

Yeah - I assume that's the reason the old service kit is more expensive than the 08+ version. 2 air filters in the kit for the older blades....
