So, I got some new tyres cheap and decided it would be a great idea to use my 20 year old paddock stand to support the front of the bike. What could possibly go wrong? Front end lifted and wheel removed. Happy days, until returning to the garage I found the bike leaning over and fairing nicely resting against a set of drawers. Slight crack in fairing of immaculate 2006 RR6. Bollocks! Went and bought an Oxford heavy duty paddock stand which is brilliant. Moral of story: Don't be a tight Yorkshireman! What's the phrase? Oh Yeh - "penny wise, pound foolish" Bollocks!
good tip though that helps. always replace the spindle and nut whilst the wheel is out. stops the forks splaying just in case you have a paddock stand made of spaghetti. there is quite a bit of weight on the stand on a pair of forks without them being braced. hope this helps
Yea....... I've probably said it more than I care to think, Abba Stand is the way to go if you do any work on your own bike.
Does an ABBA stand lift it from the swinging arm pivot. Got to admit, paddock stands are a pain. Even putting it back on the floor after is a heart stopping moment! How much is an ABBA stand? Let me guess- cheaper than a new fairing panel!
I went for the 1-Jac lift.. think there is a thread here with 10% discount. Its a great stand but not cheap.. around £300 delivered but both wheels off the ground and its not falling off this stand..
IMO the best tools on any bike is thought and patience. If your paddock stands are no use think why they are no use and rectify it. It amazes me at tracks with the amount of impractical crap that I see people struggling with. Blame the tools but fix them before its too late. My 2p off my chest.
They're about £90, you can jump on the bike when it's on the stand, swing side to side, jump up and down. Your bike will still be upright and the stand will still be in place. www.abbastands.co.uk
Not quite the same but.. I had a new pair of tyres (s20's) fitted by HGB in Ruislip. They managed to take paint off both front and back rims and then tell me it must have been done before. Wont be going back.
