I tried to solve this through web search but to no avail. I parked my bike up in perfect running order just over a year ago, having badly broken my foot the bike has not moved until recently. There was a very small amount of fuel left in the tank from before the foot break and I had kept the battery charged so fired it up with no problem whatsoever. I took it for a brief run to see if my foot was up to it and thankfully it was. However it run very lumpy, I figured stale fuel was the problem and filled it up with fresh. I have now put 3 or 4 tank full's through it but it is still running rough. Also tried a fuel additive with injector cleaner, it did seem to run a little better with this in the tank but it didn't last long, not even for the tankful. I took it to Honda and they thought maybe a stock remap would cure it, this didn't work so started to look into it myself, the fuel pump seems to be priming and running fine, I looked at the teabag filter and although there are some particles deposited on it the vast majority of it's surface area is good. Apparently this filter is not a serviceable item but Honda said they have never known a pump or filter problem on a fireblade of this model. I have read so much about this but normally the forum writer says they will post back having tried something but doesn't so your left wondering if their last effort was successful. Basically it seems like a misfire, but all headers are getting hot, if I hold the throttle open at 1k, 2k, 3k or upwards you can hear it and feel it clearly, under hard acceleration it seems better but I think it is still there. Honda say maybe coil pack, maybe spark plug and maybe corrosion on a connector, possibly to the ECU but I am just wondering if anybody out there has had the same symptoms and actually cured it? It can be an expensive game renewing things one by one to eliminate. At present I have the bike in bits with fairing and tank off and down to the throttle bodies. I will take a look at the plugs as soon as I can get hold of a plug spanner to fit. Coil sticks look ok and connections don't look corroded. Any suggestions would be gratefully received.
Had similar on my track bike. Bottom End seemed bogged down and as though the timing was out. Plugs looked all fine but as I had a set I threw them in anyway and sorted it by chance... good luck and hope you sort it
Thanks, I thought that as I had gone this far I might as well go for a set of plugs just to eliminate it as a possible cause.
Not quite the same symptoms but I recently had a misfire when hot, thought it was the coils so changed those but still joy. Changed the plugs but that didn't cure it, finally diagnosed it to the camshaft sensor.
Thanks Scott, I just read an in depth article on it and it is a definite possibility and one I hadn't come across, it seemed to suggest a surging of the throttle which doesn't quite fit my symptoms, but mine could be in the early stages of a breakdown of the TPS. Was yours a surging or more a kind of misfire? Thanks for your input.
It was a like a misfire but the bike would pull through it when you drove it but was never right. Sounded rough at idle as well. Don't know about the blades but on the 600rr when you out the bike on sidestand and fired it up the temp light would flash so many times. How many times was a code That's how I found out it was the tps. Changed throttle bodies and it was perfect. Do you have a heat gun to check temp difference in header pipes? If they are the same I would probably rule out coils and plugs.
Just had another look into the fault code side of things. Seems the blades do have same system It's called Mil light Long blinks and short ones with sidestand down and ignition on not running though. http://www.1000rr.net/forums/1000rr...0rr.html#/forumsite/20729/topics/58345?page=1
If you find a cold/cooler cylinder, try moving the fault about to another cylinder, coil, plug, injector, eg
I stored my bike for 1.5 year but with full tank and battery disconnected. I had no probs other than the battery didn't live long coz I did not charge it during this period! where did you store the bike coz if you get condensation in the fuel system (specially if the tank is empty, then this will not go away by itself unless you drain and flush the system. ONe more free thing you can try. Start the engine and let the engine idle to its normal temperature(77~80)stayings do not touch the throlle at all. See what happens
Hi Bonjo, I did store it tank empty in a garage but the garage does get damp, I have however had the tank off and completely drained it so if that was the problem then I have inadvertently tackled it. Can't try the other until I get it back together but thanks for your input.
Have you any joy? I have a little if what I think is the same problem. Vibration seems to be caused by throttle hunting around 300 rpm either side of what the throttle is set at. A burbling of the engine causing vibration. I've had it forever. Oil changed dampen it out a little bug I think that's just because of pressure increases. Someone has stated that the Honda ecu needs a remap? What's the best route cause of what it is? I too have checked another blade and it was super smooth. Mine only has 5000 miles on it. I'll be watching this thread.
