Don't forget that you never get a full gallon when you buy it, they only have to be within a window of a true gallon.
That is a very good point. I have had a quick search and found this: "A fuel pump that is working properly and within legal limits is very accurate. They can dispense 0.5 less or 1% more than what is requested." (http://www.tradingstandardsblog.com/petrol-pumps/) Also this: "The law says any error on selling petrol can be no more than 2p" (http://www.coventry.gov.uk/info/30/trading_standards/350/weights_and_measures) Good enough for what I use it for
Mine only gives me miles per litre. By the time I've worked out the conversion in my head, I've nearly run into the bloke in front...
I take little notice of MPG BUT was averaging over 50MPG in 6th when touring. I managed over 150 miles before the light came on, Also had as little as 90 Miles before the fuel light when having a blat. And no idea of the MPG on track
I get on average 40 mpg and cannot complain really. It's still way better than my 11 year-old 2.2 petrol family car where I get 25mpg. I need a diesel asap.
