Don't use wax for a start, used Rock oil chain wax for a time and it flings everywhere as well as being really sticky. Tried Wurth due to lots of good reviews, lots here too! Was ok but didn't protect my chain from rusting. Back to Muc off lube now which I personally have found the best.

Tip for cleaning, paraffin sprayed on then rinsed thoroughly. Use a soft tooth brush if really dirty. Magic stuff, cheap and recommended by manufacturers.

This. Or Scottoiler oil applied direct to the chain

I use WD40 Chain Wax. I don't like chain lubes, too messy.
