Finances a bit tight at the moment but need to change tyres, local tyre centre want £205 to supply and fit set of standard pilot powers ( they are the existing tyre and I have been very pleased with them) but after reading reports on the pr4, they come in at another £80, are they worth the extra cost? I don't do track days.

In the current michelin range you have:

    Pilot Road 4
    Pilot Power 3
    Pilot Power 2ct
    Pilot Power

There are others that are more track orientated but these are the more road based ones. I've only used the power Pures (no longer available) and the power 3's on the road and both were great tyres. I've only heard great stuff about the Road 4's for all year riding.

I use the standard Pilot Powers at present and commute all year, am a fast road rider and try my best on track... i'd say they're an excellent all round tyre and probably beyond most peoples capability in the dry.

Guessing you are talking about the PR4s, more grip than you'll even need, but saying that so do the PP3s!.

Made the change myself from PP3s to PR4s, the cost difference wasn't that much, but I generally buy off tyreleader.com and fit locally for a tenner.

IMO the PR4s will have an edge during wet weather, both last for ages!.
I notice the PR4 seem to be magnetic as they seem to be attracting an assortment of screws and nails!

I've just fitted a pair of the basic Pilot Powers and have used these tyres on two other bikes - they do everything I need from a tyre, a couple of trackdays, commuting and some touring. Warm up quickly and never had an issue in the wet (I ride according to the conditions!), so I can highly recommend them. I got the pair delivered for £136 from Tyreleader. Of course, if you have an extra £40, I've heard nothing but praise for the Pilot Road 4's. Take your pick but they're all great tyres.

Pilot power is the oldest I'm led to believe, single compound. Ie not hard in the middle and softer near the edges, imagine the middle will wear faster than pp3. Just got the pp3 feel really good so far

I'm on 3rd set of Pilot Power 3s.. I cannot say anything wrong about them. I even used them on wet track once, it was a butt clenching experience while taking corners but doing about 150mph in wet on a long straight in Bedford Autodrome was no problem.

They are like slicks on the edges so I suggest you don't lean too much in wet.

I cannot decide what tyres to buy next so I'll probably buy another PP3. You cannot go wrong with them.

Pilot Road 4 will last longer than Pilot Power 3 and will be better in wet. The grooves in PR4 go all the way to the edges.
Pilot Power 3 will be more fun in dry - softer, edges like slicks, V shape profile rather than U shape profile.
