Why do some riders change from a 190/50/17 rear tyre to a 190/55/17. I obviously realise it would make the bike longer geared slightly. I bought a 2010 cbr1000rr earlier this year and it has a Avon av80 190/55/17 but I've noticed the original spec is a 50 profile, the tyre hasnt last very long at all and is down to the markers so I'm going to need one soon. I'm just wondering whether to put a 50 or a 55 profile back on Thanks
Stick with a 55, it's not for the gearing, it makes the bike turn in quicker as the tyre is taller. It lifts the back end approx 8.5mm so is equivalent to dropping the forks thru the yokes without sacrificing ground clearance. The speedo is usually out by a certain percentage and I have read that this puts it back to a true reading. Not sure how true that is but I suspect it is so.
Only issue on a Blade can be that the tyre may rub the hugger. Mine doesn't and as you are removing a 55 you should be ok.
Yeah it should be ok as there is good clearance now, the other thing to think about is I've just fitted a taylormade exhaust that is quite close to the tyre, I suppose it's only 8.5mm closer than normal. Thanks for your help
you could try 200x55 or 200x60 but yeah I would say 55 feels better on road and track, so keep with that mate
Thanks for all your comments, I've only had the bike a few months and just getting used to it so I think I'm probably best off keeping it as I'm used to. Thanks again guys
