Went to look at an 09 for sale today, despite being low mileage the black lower exhaust panel had gone a bit cloudy or discoloured. Is this a heat issue ? They seem to be a matt finish, can this be cleaned up with products or does it need to be refinished ? I'm guessing you could just repaint it with BBQ paint or similar ?

    Thanks in advance..

Probably cleaned with too stronger chemicals, but in any case if you use all year it is only a matter of time before the rust sets in.
You can use BBQ paint but to really need prepare the surfaces and key it in or else it may peel

12+ come with a cover to help hide this, but you might want to get a yoshi or Ackro for the extra noise!

It looks a bit like maybe the owner spilt oil on it when it was hot, as I say it's gone cloudy..but not all over, sort of a blob shape. Bike is at the absolute top end of budget, no money for new noisy bits ! Will have to be content with the stock exhaust mods

Have the same problem a common fault that's why the later models have a plate on top to hide it. My mate used exhaust paint on his which worked well but in the end better to just wait until you can afford an Akro or Yoshi.

The finish on the standard exhaust is very poor - some were swapped by Honda under warranty. Hondas solution was to fit a cover over the top on 2010 onwards models (to hide the exhaust rotting behind..). The later standard end can up to 2013 model will fit and they are normally available for less than £100 on Ebay etc.

Ahh, I get it know, thanks. The black finish is the actual box and the silver end piece is just a bolt on. Sorry, I had it backwards.
So post 2010 exhaust has the cover with the slants in.
