hi all I'm daryl I'm new here. had my 2004 1000rr for a few years now its primarily my track bike that occasionally get used on the back lanes for testing. I'm thinking of an engine rebuild over winter to boost the power cams and possibly high comp Pistons any one on here have any experience on building a high power rr4 any and all advice welcome. Current engine spec is Full arrow gp system Pc111 K&n filters Custom map 159@the rear wheel
Hi Daryl, Had my RR5 done last winter, spec was Akrapovic titanium full race system, K+N filter, PC3 with custom map putting out 154bhp. Had the cams re-profiled at Kent Cams and also gas flowed the head. It now makes 175bhp! Dynoed at a very reputable place FW Developments just outside Preston. My mate stopped short of skimming the head for reliability.
Bloody hell 175whp with standard CR? That's madness so no skim and no high comp Pistons to retain some reliability. And it was Kent regrinds you used any idea on the grind they do a few Thanks mate
No idea, left that to my mate. Been running it regularly at Oulton this year, only just had second oil change and goes really well. How much more reliable do you want?
......Did I mention the 44,000 miles I've clocked up on it from new? HaHa....reliability issues indeed!
175 would be enough for me especially if I can use standard Pistons even better. is your rev limiter still at 11k ? Thanks for the info
Not sure when limiter kicks in but it redlines at 11600 and I have the amber shift light set at 11300.
On the 2004 blade, you can go with HC piston but you can gain a lot by grinding the cylinder block + cylinder head. Lot of compression to gain. cylinder block is the one to grind first cause it's this way you can reduce your squish zone, compression is one thing but you gain more working in the squish. Goal is to have it around 0,70mm, you can go down at 0,65 but not less, less you will have cooling issue and no more HP. My advice, ( it's a lot of work ) : mesure your squish ( PTH ) and PTV, after adjust them by grinding the cylinder block and/or the cylinder head. put in some regrind stock cam and adjust cam timing to fit the new cam design and PTH. Go to a dyno and you gain 15hp ( some times more but no a lot ).
15 bhp without flowing the head interesting stuff I think I'm going to pull the engine this winter and see what I can do. How do you get on with piston with valve clearances with the aggressive cams and ground head and block? Do the standard Pistons need pocketing further ? Thanks for the advice !!
