    Hello guys,

I was just wondering if anyone could tell me the procedure for noise testing at a trackday?

I'm booked in for Donington on the 8th with No Limits. It's a 105db day. But being the clever so-and-so that I am, I bought my Fireblade with a Racefit Growler pipe, which I think generates enough noise to start earthquakes!

It's definitely too loud without a removable baffle (which I do have on the way). But I was just wondering if anyone knew the actual static noise test procedure?

How far away from the pipe do they hold the noise meter? At what RPM is it tested?

I did one trackday on my 600rr and I seem to remember the tester holding the noise meter about 3-4 feet away from the pipe exit and holding at 5000rpm. Can anyone confirm if this is the case?

    Any advice appreciated.
    Gaz.

Yeah Donington don't do static test, they do have a ride by n metre on start straight but I have never heard anyone being pulled there on a noise 105 day :) so don't worry

Yep Donny didn't do a static test when I was there the other week. The growler is bloody loud though on full chat

But as the others say - I wouldn't worry too much... just take the baffle in case.

I did a 108db day at Donington last month on my Blade with a Racefit Black Edition which is about as loud as it gets outside the MotoGP paddock and had no problem. If your still unsure, give Donington Park ai ring and ask to speak to their noise control officer. I did and she assured me that it would be ok.☺

Boys, theres no ifs, buts or maybe's, there is no noise limit at Donny with NL. Mark the owner of NL will even state on the morning briefing that you can be as loud as you wish....

    The end....

    just for OP info.

static test is 1m away from tail pipe@90deg. (they use a rod at tail tip,and sound meter is on the other end.

    1000cc is 5500 rpm
    600cc 7500rpm

    twins not sure tbh.

    pannigale-haha dont bother :)

Thanks for the heads up guys, definitely good to know!

@pete954 You have no idea how relieving your statement was about your Racefit pipe. I was getting myself set up for taking mine off and putting the standard pipe on for safety. I thought it was the organisers responsibility to noise test, but it's the actual track that's responsible? Worth knowing for the future. Thanks :)

@Mad Matt I love your confidence, but I can almost guarantee I'd be an unlucky victim :D

@scooby What you said regarding the method ties in with what I seem to remember of being tested at Rockingham. Cheers :)

The Planes start taking off at 4:30am over Donington Park so like most have said, despite the 'official' stated limits and 'official' procedures in place, in reality no one in authority gives a flying fuck tbh.

Made me Laugh my last time there, a bloody big jet flew over at 8:30am just as a track officials came on the pa system with "due to noise regs please dont start your engines until 9am" , could hardly hear her due to the jet noise :D

I've found (especially at MSV tracks) the noise testers make it up as they go along. The worst is the horrible little man at Snetterton. I've seen his reader say 104 and him say 107 to me.... Toss pot. Brands & Cadwell are no dramas at all. They let you slip by if only a little over.

I've been having a few issues of late with noise at oulton, never had a problem in the past but these last few days have been a real pain.

bikes tests at 101,then week later 105 (same bike etc) fettle it to get through and no issues regarding fly by meter.

different bike, tested at 107,never rode it myself before but know it had never failed in the past.fettled it,went through at 98,apparently the battey on themeter was getting low so giving bad readings, still made me miss the 1 st session though as I was fettling it to get through.

then wednsday, same bike that tested at 107,same baffle etc went through no probs, until I got out on track, blag flagged afer 1 lap, with a fly by reading of 105 (fly by is 92 or 98 I think so that's a massive jump) did the static again and was 101.5 so to say I've lost faith in the testers at oulton is an under statement.was told to sort shift at crtain places just incase I tripped it again, which was no bad thing as it gave me an excuse for poor lap times :)

Aww don't tell me this now. I didn't change my pipe!

Stuck a baffle in the Racefit though, hoping that will be enough :D

Like everyone says, never been tested at Donny.

Did get pulled off the ring in 2013, my Racefit measured 110dB without the baffle- They weren't happy

This year with a baffle they were fine, not sue what it would measure.
