So just coming up for first service, and obviously not going to put much trust in the 38 to 40 mpg seem to be returning. Mostly been commuting, engine is still "loosing up", and kept the throttle pinned back below 6K ( most of the time !!! ). What are people seeing in terms of general commuting, mix of urban and bit of dual carriageway, on a standard bike ... no chasing the red line ? Motorway runs ? Just playing with some ideas for some up and coming trips, the basic question of planning fuel stops. Thanks.

I have just done a ten day 2200 mile trip across France, did lots of flat out stuff and mostly 100 mph cruising on the motorway, 5 days in the alps on roads i know pretty well, start looking for a petrol station around 120 miles, but it was better than the other bikes i was riding with by a small margin, k5&6 gixxers, a speed triple and a cbr 600 generally speaking, if you are looking for economy, give big sportsbikes a miss
Thanks, Looks like my math is in the right ballpark at planning 120 miles between stops. Planning a trip to Southern Spain, and wanting to get the margins right, as don't like the idea of running on fumes, especially if taking the less than direct route. Did the same trip about 30 years ago, on my old Commando S - 2.6 gallon tank, 45 to the gallon if you were very lucky, in practice 90 miles between fills and think about adding oil every second stop. Pre the days of automated credit card eating pumps, and on several occasions facing that French evening greeting of "Non fermé", good planning and a can with a few litres of "go juice" was a must.
I'm finding the reserve indicator system really useful. You can basically bank on at least 30 miles once the light comes on, and in litres you should have up to 3.5 (but I wouldn't push it to that!). Way better than having a traditional 'gauge' type set up IMO. And I really like that it can be set to 'auto-reset' the mileage when you fill up after the reserve light's come on. 1100 miles and counting now... Brands Hatch (indy) Silverstone (national) and Silverstone GP circuit on wednesday. Still grinning. When are you planning on Spain? I've ran out of fuel twice in France (not fun!) but having the tomtom app (or equivalent) has been a real life saver for the last 5 years or so!
Agree reserve indicator works well for me, but slight panic first time as it took a while to reset itself. Full tank and yellow light still on. Spain was originally going to be in October, but work is getting in the way...... riding versus work I need to find some way of getting the right balance... "retire". Will try before end of year, but worse case will possibly be leave the trip till spring. If don't make it by road, will head down in the interim as I've been talking to some guys about getting track time at Catalunya, but on borrowed wheels. Was going to possibly talk to Carlos at Chiswick, as he was raising the idea of a number of their customers and himself being interested in a track day (wonder if they would sponsor !!!!! -- as looking expensive). Work getting in the way, is actually proving not too bad, as I'm out to California ( I know hard life, but someone's got to do it ). Think I've potentially blagged myself some time at Laguna, as Mr Code and company are apparently taking over the place around that time and maybe some spare slots in the schedule. (Friend's in right places). Only issue, will be on a Beema S1KRR, and you know my opinion on those. Enjoy time on the Silverstone GP, watch out for the ripples.

150 miles until fuel light comes on. 27000 miles and it's economy has not changed since day 1. Most of my riding is fast A and B roads.
I know her old man covered 155 miles without the fuel light coming on, on his 14' Blade. Regularly over 50mpg fairly comfortably from what I'm told.
Admittedly, I only ride my 2010 at 5000-9000 rpm, which is quick enough for me, but I don't see the reserve light until about 150 miles. Average mpg is in the high 40s to low 50s. More than happy!
Just worked out that in the last 972 miles I have used £126.78 worth of fuel @ 102.28 litres so average MPG is circa 42.33. (I think???) although I'm usually giving it the berries and a 13.8l fill sees the light back on around 110 miles with another 30 (ish) left in reserve, so really around 35-37mpg. Bike is an 09 though.
Spent about 1/3 of my miles so far on track, but I'll be sure to look at the m/l reading while I'm doing 150 on hanger straight next week...
On my 59 plate blade I get around 160 mile everytime till the light comes on but then go and re fuel straight away cause I've no idea how long the reserve last ?
lol your right I do, I only go to work and back at the moment straight motorway job so not really hammered it around, but I'm still on the look out for ride outs in the nw area !!!!!!!
Done a whole tank the other day light came on after 90 miles normally about 110 miles never look at mpg it's a toy
