Guys, I'm considering fitting a taylormade to my bike, anyone any experience of them? Are they just too loud? Do they attract too much attention from the boys in blue? When I was I lad, we just used to get a producer and sent to the MOT testing station which we did after fitting the standard zorst back on.......does this still happen? Cheers Tonic
There used to be a chap on here who swore by them and don't remember him saying he had been stopped for it, went for a ride with him once and I never thought it sounded loud. However unless they have changed the materials and the rivots they use I wouldn't touch one with a barge pole !! They rust and rattle apart at the seams and to make things worse the bike produces less horse power !, That said they do look rather good and the carbon infill panel is a work of art
I ran one for about 8k mikes on the blade, they are loud, but as said by andy not that loud, and certainly not as loud as some of the race fit and AR pipes. I never struggled at MOT time, and never had any troubles with the BIB. Sound like a Subaru imprezza at tick over and a very nice wail at 10k plus. If I'm honest though I've preferred by scorpions and akrapovics....
2004 update looks for Race use only or Not for road use. In the absence of them he won't wield an expensive noise meter to check the pipe, instead, according to the MoT test manual section 7.1 he has to do this: “With the engine running assess the effectiveness of the silencer(s) in reducing as far as is reasonable the noise emitted.” There’s no requirement for specific revs during the test, so if your bike isn’t obviously loud it should get through and you can present your paperwork at the Cop Shop, keeping a copy to show at any future roadside stops. Result.
I fitted a Taylormade to my bike and it was nowhere near as loud as the Yoshi R77 that I took off. It has a kind of deeper rumble but does not scream like a lot of others. As mentioned the build quality is not the best but I had no issues with mine at all and they do look great.
Putting ex traffic Policemans head on, whether you get stopped or not very much depends on the individual stopping you. There are some out there who are right little dictators and have a thing against bikes, there are some who are just out to make a name for themselves, so to a certain degree it is pot luck, but if it is marked "Not for road use" you are somewhat banged to rights.
I've never really got the loud exhaust thing and it's not because I particularly worry about upsetting people or attracting cops. I just find them annoying after a very short time and can easily live without the bling aspect. As for the "performance gains", is another couple of dyno BHP that's rarely if ever going to be required on the road really worth spending silly amounts of money on? I would much rather spend the money on wearing out tyres.
For me the exhaust sound adds to the whole event of driving/riding, but it is not purely about the volume. Obnoxiously loud exhausts just sound $hite, yet a nice V-twin bike, Flat Six 911, or V8-12 car can sound like a thing of beauty.
I have had it on since 2009/2010 with no issues. Its now got the 2012-15 cover and love it. Its not too loud but do wear ear plugs.
Cheers guys, still not sure what to do. It's going on my GSXR 750 k8. The problem is, I have to remove the exhaust set valve, remove the O2 sensor and then there's the expense of having it remapped (live in the Sheffield area). Could all end up being a very expensive bit of bling........ And I'm worried about the boys in blue, apparently they can dish out 3 points for a loud exhaust....is that true?
Yes....It is a construction and use offence. But only a traffic cop who is an approved vehicle examiner (which is 99% of them) can do it. The 1% who can't are the newbies who have not yet been authorised
Cheers TC, that's frightening! Might have to get something that's road level then.....can't see a taylormade being legal.
I've got my Taylormade on order, should be with me tomorrow or Tuesday, ordered from USA so hope I don't get stung with to much import coinage, haven't the luxury of a garage right now so will have to wait for weekend and half decent weather, and on the noise issue I'm sure I won't be settling of random car alarms like me RSVR 2into1 would do so regularly,,,
Hmm!!! "dated" stealth and streamlined will always be a trick luck, lower centre of gravity plus marginal less drag, (probably) will more than compensate the odd missing bhp!!!!!! Haha, none of that minor performance bull bothers me looks and loudness will keep me a happy chappy
I agree when I was looking into fitting one on my blade my mate who works for honda as a mechanic said he used to literally tell lads when they handed it over to be fitted are you sure because the build quality is shit they wont last long and they 100% take power away from the bade not exactly a good thing considering the blade had not exactly got BHP to spare. As for noise worry I would advise you to stick to the speed limit, always remember your high viz vest and dont forget to indicate in good time Or you could put your hand down your pants feel whats in there say "I am a MAN ill do what ever I want" then take the blade out max it out and then fit a stubby M4 can with decat now thats noise. For the record my bike just scrapes the noise test at oulton at 102 with the baffle in. I ride everywhere flat out on the road with no baffle in the noise should be the least of your worries on the road nothing to be fair will be that loud and if anything ill take being heard and seen than quiet and under the wheels of a car all day long
Did you order your exhaust from Biohazard cycles in Florida ? They offered the best prices, low uk delivery and assist with keeping any charges down.
I've got a Taylormade on mine, it came with the bike. I love it, in my opinion the best looking can. Sound is a nice deep rumble, loud but not too loud. I haven't had it long so can't say about build quality, will be pissed if it's starts falling apart though.
Yes I have ordered from biohazard, just had email saying cleared customs and is now in transit,,, hopefully fit it this weekend, will post pics and video when done, also a few words on fitting, and 1st impressions [emoji1]
