So my blade was in getting the clutch sorted as they hadn't put it together properly and was slipping. They gave me the keys to a brand new blade which I've just managed to drop when the back wheel span up on some gravel leaving mine to pick my blade up -_- Will I have to pay out for damage or would it be on their insurance or anything? I'm not sure how it works An embarrassing day lol
Oops, if it makes you feel any better we've had a new MT09 written off recently on test ride, so it happens.. If the damage isn't too bad I'd expect them to ask for you to pay for the parts and associated labour. If it's insurance then it's a case of covering any excess.
Doesn't look to bad, not sure how both mirrors snapped though :/ then just scratches and a snapped gear shift. Ego took more of a beating I think haha
Think most dealers have a £1,000 excess where you pay the first £1,000 pounds of cost of parts if less. How did you get on when you handed it back ?
Sorry to hear that pal, I dropped a knackered old ex Ducati training bike (Monster) when my 899 was in for warranty work. Very minimal damage yet was charged a 'discounted' £1500 for repairs. Whole thing was not my fault, cut up and run , was witnessed but nobody got the plate!. Dealer took zero mercy and charged me for damage that was already present e.g existing scuff on the exhaust so they charged £680 for new exhausts. He was really aggressive & said they would 'confiscate' my 899 until I paid up. I wish I had done so many things differently now but he caught me off guard on a bad day and took full advantage of the situation. This happened a few weeks ago and I thought I would get over it , but I'm still angry , bitter & embarrassed that he took the piss out of me. I know a few people who have bought from him & they are all taking their business elsewhere when their PCP is up & for all servicing etc. Apologies for the waffle, hope you get sorted, think everything is still raw..
I just rang the guys and said, they loaded my nicely polished blade into the van and cane out to me and just switched them over. Said these things happen and they'll have a look at the damage and get back to me Doesn't sound good @rosso some places are just out to get you, I've had places do it with my car before
surely you had insurance cover,or was just 3rd party? if they are a main dealer,a quick letter to the main supplier would be in order.
They claim 3rd party only, The bike was truly knackered, if I had replaced the peg & brake lever myself and returned it without telling them they would never have known. I thought that's all I would have been charged for. The general manager was sat twiddling his thumbs on the day ( quiet time of year & targets to meet) and literally lept out of his seat to inspect the bike. He then took it in the workshop to 'price' up the damage. He was aggressive & swore during the discussions yet I kept my cool throughout ( I'm surprised & regret this now). I wish I'd just left my 899 there and taken it further. I wish I'd just bought the piece of shit for 2k , repaired & sold it. I wish somebody had got the Reg of the car that had cut me up. I wish I hadn't bought a Ducati which has spent literally months in the stealers having warranty repairs done. I will never touch the brand or dealer again..
So they just rang and said the damage totalled at £3900, but I only need to pay the £1000 excess. Wasn't expecting that much tbh thought 800 tops but what do i know lol could have been worse
£3900 damage, thats surely taking the p***, they must get parts at trade price etc. I'd take some legal advice before you pay anything.
Tell them they should have fixed your bike properly then you wouldn't have had the hire bike in the first place
Can't help but think that's against the law. It's a civil matter to withhold your bike if you refuse to pay a bill you agreed to for them working on your bike, but I'd be surprised that having an accident on a loan bike allows them to keep your bike. They're 2 separate incidents and I'd be calling the police to report them for withholding your bike as that's theft. Hope the OP sorts his problem out BTW. There should be insurance somewhere otherwise someone could potentially end up being hit for the full cost of a bike.
Why? If it's damaged its damaged.... Irrespective of cost? Why should dealer not have it replaced.... If they damaged yours they'd be changing it FOC wouldn't they!? Sorry to hear about it OP but got to take positive, £1000 excess is prob what you signed up to? Pay up move on and get your bike back.... What's same out come if your bike.... £500 excess, agg, damaged pride and joy, loss of no claims, higher policy cost? Personally - I'd hate to drop someone else's bike, but a dealers is kind of a blessing in disguise? I'd be paying my £1,000 apologising and moving on from the whole thing.... Hope all gets sorted with best outcome.
Downside is that if they're claiming off their insurance it'll be a claim against you so check you're insurance to see if you can claim some or all of the excess back. Fortunately where I live we still have rider policies so I'm covered for any bike I ride with the owners permission.
