Apologies if I'm covering old ground, I did a search but didn't come up with much that answers my specific question. I'm after a bit of advice as I've just bought my first blade and since it's track only I wondered if there was any specific type of oil I should go for/avoid as I understand they can be a bit thirsty! The manual just says 10w-40, so recommendations over and above that, different viscos, semi/full synth and so on, would be much appreciated. The engine's fairly standard other than kit head gaskets and a nova upgrade in the gearbox. Cheers,
Silkoline comp 4 pro ? I think I've used in my 08 Trackbike..... but lots of different oils are preferred ..... search previous posts loads of oil talk.....
Did 80,000 miles on my 2008 bike and the insides were perfect with almost no wear when it was fully stripped and inspected by an engineer under Court / Judges directions. In that time it used so many different oils I lost track of what went in it so I wouldn't worry too much
for track use, a lot depends on your engine rebuilt budget. The thinner the oil, the more HP the engine can deliver but less protection &more rebuilt. Typically you can have 5w30 in there. the normal rating 10w40 will give you a balance of cost vs power but you would still have to change the oil more frequently than in the manual. in either case I am talking about full synthetic
Presumably those 80k were road miles? This is purely for track, so it'll be taking quite a bashing. Thanks bonjo, I was going to go for 10w-40. I'm not chasing any more power as it's already kicking out 186bhp! I usually change every 4 TDs so I'll carry on with that and see how I get on.
The bike did maybe 50 track days, remember riding back from Monaco one weekend and having a good blatt round Snetterton, also did the nurbergring a few times on way to Alps so quite a mixture. Plus RAF Valley etc and every UK track.
