Why do British Riders fail to get to, or not succeed, in MotoGP? « Alex's Blog Its my first ever 'Blog' and i was asked to do it, on any subject, what do you guys think? PS, feel free to pass the link around, id like to beat the 1000 views record for a guest blog....
Interesting read there Craig. Personally I'd love to see the likes of a moto2 type series in the uk. That way the rider is what's shown through.
It makes a very interesting read Craig. A good topic well presented. Let's hope things change in the future. Unfortunately, Like most sports, those that have access to money either call the shots or get to play or decide who plays and who does not. Great blog mate.
Like that Craig, to the point and and you resisted the urge to rant brilliantly. LOL. Good man. Exfire, Jimbo and I were only talking on this subject earlier today but nowhere near as eloquently.
Oi! Thought you were perfectly eloquent ken!! Great read Craig, cheers for sharing. In my eyes your bang on, look at the superteens in Spain, and the minimoto racing in Italy, far bigger sports out there with a much bigger pool of talent. I went to catalonia for the gp, and its back page news out there, you'd be lucky to get a mention of the motogp in our media. We will only produce a decent amount of talent (at gp level) when it becomes mainstream here. All the time we stay obsessed with superbike (been that way since foggy) we wont see our kids going that route. You point out that r6 cup being the breeding ground for so much of our talent, but that won't take you to moto2, that's a fast track route to bsb. Maybe when they change 125 to 250 four strokes which should be cheaper you might see mimic series in the uk which can work as a stepping stone into the world stage for our youngsters? I hope so.
Look how many kids there are are wazzing around on scooters in every southern european city. These are the training grounds, these are the nurseries for the future of the sport. Our sixteen year olds haven't rode bikes in such numbers since the seventies.
The weather is a major factor!! Also when I was 16 scooters were uncool, was all about rs50 or 50cc dirtbikes. Not in the med, put that with a 14 yr pass rate and your right, scooters become the breeding ground. Read rossis bio and he spent his youth tearing around carparks in scooter races (as well as gokarting and mini moto racing) but it def gets more kinds into bikes early on which we dont
There is bugger all help in the UK, you need money to start racing and loads more to succeed. I won loads of club races and couldn't get a bit of sponsorship which is why I opened my own shop in the end. WSB riders who have done well in MotoGP? I think Baylis should get a mention! Good piece though, lets hope Cal proves it wrong next year and gets a 3rd season
Interesting read that Craig, let's hope with all the scooter boys on the roads now in the coming years we'll see the depth of young British talent will see more push through into the higher ranks of the GP
