Hi, do most things mechanical on a bike myself but intimidated by valve clearances, anyone know of a good mobile mechanic that operates in the South East. Had some shocking experiences with dealers, like the bike too much to go there again. Ideas much appreciated.

Hi, I'm in Herts, not far from Watford. Sounds distant from your mate but I'll travel if the job gets done well, sounds like he'd be more affordable than main agent. If you don't mind letting me have the details I can phone and have a chat. Thanks for replying to my original post, appreciate it.

If you do all the maintenance yourself go for it;), once you've done them you'll be pleased with yourself and think what was i worried about:D Bit of a job getting rocker cover off though or should i say getting it back on as on both occasions when i have checked them you think it's never going back on but it does. Good luck.

Beginning to think that way myself, been doing twin cam cars for more than 2 decades. Convinced myself that the poor access would be too much to bear and I've never had an engine that's good for such high rpm in bits before, difference between car and bike bit like a lawnmower and a Rolex. Should stop being such a fart and give it a go I guess. Ta for the reassurance.

Just give yourself plenty of time, as you probably know nothing worse than racing the clock. One of the bikes we checked was at 16000 and the other at 21000, no shims required on either. While its apart there are other things you can do at the same time, plugs and air filters and a good spring clean while at it.:D:D
