DIY Alarm fitting

    Hello All,

    just thought i'd ask incase someone here can help. fitting a SPY alarm to my CBR900RR (2001) and just wanted to establish how i can tell which wire is the "live" one?

    I've got a black and white wire that looks like it comes from where the fuse is plugged in, and a thicker red and black wire...

    can anyone point me in the right direction...?

    You need a multimeter pal so you can check for permanent and switch live

    as above or even better, a power probe. no one should be without one if you do your own maintenance

    Don't do it!

    Biggest problem ever for Bikes breaking down is Alarms, plus no fecker takes a blind bito notice anyway.

    Spend the cash on a ground anchor n chain.

    As sine wave said a chain and anchor is better! Also diy fit alarms tend to be not recognised by insurance companies better off with a tracker

    OP, should U even be attempting this if U don't even have a basic grasp of Electrickery?

    A username of CharlieTech infers U have some technical background, yes? [​IMG]

    Those muppets that make the coffees at Starbucks etc are known as beverage technicians, but not sure I'd trust them with the wiring on my bike!

    Hi guys, Thanks for the responses.. I was just being lazy as I didn't have my multimeter to hand and thought I'd ask.. In case someone knew off the top of their head. Also the instructions are a little wrong its the switched live I need not the permanent live.

    I'm a computer systems engineer by day so will be ok once I find my multimeter :)

    As for the alarm I like having one just to make some noise, I've got hiss on the bike so just need the noise bit lol... Also going to invest in an almax chain and cover for when I go to work... And will be looking at an anchor for when its at home :)

    In case anyone is wondering.. I managed to test this morning. The black and white wire is the "output" of the fuse... This should read 0 volts regardless of the ignition is on of off.

    The "red and black" is actually red and green (had bad light before) is the switched live.. This should read 0 volts when ignition is off... And jump to 12 volts when ignition is on. <- that's the little guy that the "Brown" wire (which is the accessories wire or something) that needs to be wired in so the alarm knows if the circuit is working as it should...
