I'm looking to change the caliper bolts on my SP to titanium I'm told the standard Blade fit but they have a smaller head size to the ones holding the Brembo calipers. Anyone with a SP changed theres and where did you get them from? Thanks in advance.
I don't have an SP but have a standard blade with Brembo M4 callipers - I use Race Bolt titanium bolts and they perform with no-problems ( as bolts should I guess ) & are pretty high quality Here is a photo ( pls ignore the incorrect spacer between calliper & fork - it has since been removed !)
As an ex-automotive engineer and also someone who has raced and built bikes I'm really careful regarding safety critical fastners like brake bolts. The bike press especially get it wrong, time and time again. Greasing or using coppaslip on bolts that are meant to be assembled dry is particularly dangerous. I've seen recalls where the supplier has changed surface finish to improve corrosion resistance and its altered surface friction meaning that the same torque settings have allowed the bolt to be stretched past its yield point resulting in the bolts loosening off in service, even though they were torqued up correctly and the bolt material hadn't changed. This is a really good explanation as to how bolts work and why manufacturers settings are really important. http://www.extreme-bolt.com/fastener-torque-specs.html Personally I'd be really worried if a titanium bolt supplier told me to use the same settings as high tensile plated steel. At the very least I would use loctite or better still safety wire them. Looks V trick as well.
