just bought an rr8 after a ride out noticed oil on lower fairing cleaned it off and rode again, same again, looks like it's the bottom of the crank case, I take it I need a new gasket, where's quickest to get one or better to use a liquid gasket, is it a common problem?
Do you have any photos of the problem? Is the oil coming out of the crankcase mating face areas or somewhere else? Oil can be pushed out of a faulty water pump for instance. Have seen oil coming out of the crankcase bolt holes if they have not been tightened back up correctly if for instance a set of crankcase sliders have been added or removed. Another thing that can cause oil to leak out the cases is it the oil level is over filled as it increases the internal oil pressure! The cases are also sealed with rtv silicone sealant.
That's a bit more visible picture, it does look like you may be right from that pic. Just buy yourself a tube of rtv silicone sealant from a motor factors shop and remove the cover, clean off the old silicone (don't use metal screwdrivers n such to clean old silicone as it can gouge casing material!) apply a thin bead around the casing and refit again! Is your oil level ok? Have you checked it?
I'd check the torque on the bolts first mate, If it had covers on and then removed before selling they may not tight. If their loose, nipping them up may be all that's needed. Failing that, what Craig says.
And get ready to shout and swear when trying to put that case back on. Absolute nightmare getting the clutch shaft back in right.
cheers for the info, checked bolts, they are all tight, oil level is on the top line on the dip stick
Looking at your second picture again it appears the case has been re sealed (visible sealant)- Looks like Craig's advice is what's needed.
