    Hello,

I have a CBR1000RR 2006 model. Recently my bike started consuming lot of oil with dark smoke. My mec advised to change the pistons as it has got some scores on it. I have got 4 new Pistons and rings ( 0.25 Over size). I need to resize the bore to fit new pistons... Which is the best process ? Re-plating or re-sleeving or boring ? I know these bikes have Nikasil coating on cylinders. what do you guys suggest?

    Thanks,
    D

A rebore and replate is probably best route! Any decent tuning shop should be able to help with this or point you in the right direction

I,m not saying this is gospel but getting the bores plated is near on impossible , there are a few places that claim to be able to do it at a cost ,then there's the age old story that it will burn oil ,a bit like the 08-09 saga, some do some don't . I,ve pulled a few Honda lumps apart , the question needs to be asked Why are the bores buggered ? Over fueling , under fueling ,bore wash , are just a few . The last lump I pulled apart had done 90,000 with very little wear , my own 06 Blade at 34,000 had next to no wear in the bores ,ring gaps were good too , needless to say it did,nt even get a refresh .
