Should'nt take long to sort, budget allowing.Should only take a day to pull gearbox out and replace with another. Fortunately the gearbox is of the cassette type and you don't have to drop the motor, assuming it's the same set up as RR5.
Nope. Totally different on the 08 onwards bikes mate. You have to split the engine to replace the gearbox.
Forget the Haynes manual mate. What u want to do is have a look on here in the maintenance thread and get the workshop manual download. It goes into a lot more detail than the Haynes ever will.
Engines out but what size flywheel puller do I need is it 20 MM. Does anyone know cheer guys doesn't say in the Haynes also anyone got a link for a workshop manual thanks again if you can help
It's a special thread to be honest mate. I didn't have to remove mine as I was splitting the whole engine. I'm sure there is a workshop manual in the maintenance thread
If the same crank is going back in don't bother removing the stator flywheel, the cases will split and the crank will happily come out with it still attached.
The thread on the RR5 is M20, the pitch is 1mm or 1.25mm could check it for you if need be but as shiny says no need to remove it.
Yeah it's a m18 1.5 puller but looks like it can stay on just got to split the engine now but it's on hard lol any tips anyone can give me on splitting the crank case here's a picture on the gear lol
Make sure you have all the bolts out mate. We found 2 or 3 hidden bolts when trying to split the engine. Was a bit of a pain to locate them all but once done a few taps with a rubber mallet seen it come apart.
Found the sneaky hiding bolt lol crankcase came off with ease I've ordered 3rd gear 3rd/4th and forth plus upper and lower gaskets £256 USA over £500 in the uk but of course custom will be a bit but still cheaper then this Country soon the fun begins putting her back together keep you posted
Yea I enjoyed stripping mine down too. Didn't actually take that long when the engine was on the bench
Yeah I was surprised how quick we did it garage wanted £1000 just to be where we are at now took us 7 hours so far which it bad starting to regret putting all the bolts in one tray tho ...only joking all neat and tidy I promise Honda garage said it would take 2 days I don't believe it myself I just proved them wrong and we haven't got half the kit they got rip off merchants
Yea I wouldn't pay anyone for that work. It's easy enough and you get to see how it all goes together.
What caused the gearbox to fail in the first place, do you know? Like you we have ordered engine parts from the USA amazing how much cheaper they were.
