Hot Temperature

    Hi folks, I got a fireblade 08 and the temp keeps on jumping up and down!!! And when I'm warming it up the temp does the same thing! It's not just going up to high but sometimes it goes down then go up again. Then it reaches 132c and the engin light comes on then the bike shuts down! I tested the thermostate and it's working, I changed the heat sensor and flushed the coolant and made sure no air in the system and it still doing the same thing!

    132 is far too high!. Good thing the engine light comes on. I would definitely switch it off it it gets to 110

    the bike has two stage fan cooling system: st fan comes on @ 102 and the second @ 106.
    The max I have seen on mine is 106 on a very warm summer's day in traffic. The temp is brought down to around 98. If there is not enough speed and air movement, it goes up to 106, and the cycles runs again. I have a radiator guard fitted.
    All my numbers are based on the engine running.

    Check the fans (fuse, sensor, motor and all) promto my friend

    I have only the right fan that actually working, but it still go way too high! I'll check the fuse box and hope I find the problem there!

    I know you mentioned you flushed the coolant making sure no air was in the system but it does sound like an air lock, that could explaine your fluctuating temperature readings .... Worth another look

    Thanks for your reply and I will try to make sure no air is locked inside!
    Do u think there's a better way to do that? Or just open the radiator cap and wait for air to come out?

    I check why the other fan isn't working first, might be bearings seized on it or the clearance isn't enough

    Also as Dave has said make sure you don't have trapped air in the coolant tubes

    Tha fluctuating temp made me not really care about the fan but for sure I'll fix it before I take the bike back on the street. The fan is the smaller one on the left so I would think the bigger fan should be enough for now till I find out why the temp jumps too high! I flushed the system 4 times and I'm sure I bleed it from any air i think!
    It could be the meter problem or the radiator or something else! I'm lil fed up with it, I think I'm just gonna take it to the shop!

    each fan has it's own relay and fuse. the right hand comes on @ 102, the left at 106. and the ECU can keep them both on.
    If the lower range is working then the good news is the temperature sensor is doing its job

    you should be able to check this fairly easily.

    Mine is currently running between 98 and 109...is this acceptable.??? I put it down to the warm weather. My warning light did come on but after cooling down and switching bike off for an hour it was fine and has been ok for last few days.

    you should only get to those temperatures in warm weather, if you are crawling at parking speed or standing still.

    unless you cruise at insane speeds, track racing (although I have no experience of either!)

    engine oil affect the running temperature. Make sure your oil level is correct and run full synthetic (if not already). I would recommend running 10w50 (as I do).
    PS don't want to start another "oil" threat.
    worth checking the clutch cable slack as well
