It's more to where you leave and park a bike as to what security you choose, what may be ok for a guy to leave in his sleepy village and go for a ride to a tea hut, compared to someone living in a city and parks in a car park all day.

I have quite a few now!
for general running around I use a Xena with alarm. excellent product (be aware that the motion sensitivity trigger depends on how you mount it on the disc)
Another one I have that I like (think from bike it) has jaws just about wide enough to allows you to clamp a chain to the disc
what is important is that the body of the lock protect the locking pin from angle grinder and cutting tools.
also remember if you declare any form of lock on your insurance, then you have to use it wherever you park the bike unattended

I think disc locks are pretty pointless bikes that get stolen aren't ridden away there just chucked in the back of a van

Don't think there is any rules to bike security, it's more like how far do you go, just read on here the horror stories.
Disc locks are good, but they cut through your disc n push it away with a moped as seen on the YouTube vid, R1 Lakeside , just got to slow them down and to make them make as much noise as possible to get it to put them off or others hear them.

Big heavy padlocks n chains are good at home, but not when out and about if to heavy to lug about.

I take Abus Granite disc lock, Abus lock and chain, Abus Granite U lock and a long 10mm wire bond when touring abroad, incase they don't have a private car park.

Extreme, yes, still got my bike, yes.

I use a Xena with built in alarm. I agree they are mainly a visual deterrent as opposed to good security. However in saying that I recently had someone try to mess with my blade and they only cracked my front fender as opposed to taking it so who's to say.

Yes same here with the disc locks. Recently i had a theft attempt but they managed to bend the front disc while trying to destroy the lock. The only bit that was left hanging there was the steel case itself. Batteries were taken out, plastics were damaged so you get the picture...oh and my brake caliper was slightly damaged

    Bastards...so yes do use them

thx all I have a ground anchor at home with an oxford lock and chain also another smaller chain through the back wheel it was mainly for when I'm out as a deterrent should I leave it ( highly unlikely)
