Hi I've read somewhere paraffin is good for cleaning your chain do you just use the stuff from a DIY store ???? And do you just Brush it on leave for 5 mins + wash it off thanks
I paint it on and agitate with a paint brush or proper chain cleaning brush then when the chains clean wipe with rags or kitchen roll until dry then chain lube it. Plenty of old newspaper needed on the floor for the run off
Used Parrafin a few months ago for the first time to clean chain, extremely pleased with the result. 4 ltrs from B &Q about £7
Thanks bradt that's the same I've been looking at very glad you are happy to recommend it I take it you just used it the same way as wurzel
Yeah but used toothbrushes as didn't have a proper chain cleaning brush, but will definitely get one for next clean.
Paraffin works a treat. I bought a 4ltr bottle from homebase for around £7 I think a couple of months ago. I'm sure you could find it cheaper but it was convenient for me. Just brushed on with a toothbrush and after a bit of agitating it came up like new. Hardly used any paraffin so should last for ages
Standard heating oil? Interesting if it is, although I'm not sure about the smell whilst cleaning the chain.
I use an Oxford chain brush £7 and muc off chain cleaner. Takes about 10 mins, then just wipe off the left overs with a rag. Looks great.
yup standard heating oil; is best followed closely by paraffin I don't care much for expensive sprays unless it is an emergency. don't forget to use newspaper generously wipe off the chain before washing it tooth brush are also best and most versatile. Dedicated brushes bristle can be too hard for the seals if you are heavy handed and don't always cover different chain sizes
